A friend of mine has an EIG 36 cal repro...maybe a Navy as its fairly small framed....the frame is all brass. In a nice wood box with mold, caps, but powder thing is missing. He wants to sell it but doesn't know what its worth. He paid about $139 for it 15 or so years ago. Nice condition.

I guessed that it was less than $100, prob way less, but I'm not a black powder guy.

Any suggestions on value?

Is it engraved? Pictures? Not having the powder flask would knock off the price a bit since its a boxed set but to me the biggest drawback is the brass frame. They look nice but wear out rapidly. I think around $100.00 would be right. If it has nice engraving then a bit more. EIG makes, (or made, I don't know if they are still in business) repros of the Spiller and Burr guns and Colts along with various derringers and pepperboxes. The workmanship looks good on the ones I've seen in pictures

Cap: don't have any pics, but its not engraved. Looked very ordinary to me other than all brass frame. I think you've nailed it tho...$100 tops. Didn't look at barrel to see if it was clean or not either.

EIG

OK, a couple of questions:
Has the revolver been fired?
How long is the barrel?
What is the condition of the box(case)?
OK, that is more than a couple, but only one more.

Lee, I don't have ready access to the gun. Just saw it the other day and he knew I liked guns and asked me what I thought it was worth if he were to sell it. I guessed about $79-100. He manages a small antique store in town and I suggested he put it on display at whatever price he wanted to see how it went. Could always come down if it didn't sell.

It has been fired once. Forget to ask if he cleaned it thoroughly. Outside was good, but bore is unknown factor. Size of barrel: don't know...as I indicated above, it is a smallish frame, about normal length barrel. Not big like a dragoon, or army model, that I'm generally familiar with. Box is in good shape. I think clasp was broken or missing...didn't pay much attention to that.

Next time I go to town I'll check it out further.

Thanks all for the input.

You can get a new brass frame 1851 from Cableas or other name stores for a few dollars more, so unless this is a buddy deal, (he needs the $), go there, or offer him $50.
BP revolvers are fun, but the next one I get will be steel framed!
