Very First Reloads

Been a while.... Picked up a 30-06 Garand through some deal in Shotgun News ($175 if I recall correctly). I thought I was on my way to DCM glory. I remember buying that purple can of 4895 IMR powder, and using my brand new rockchucker to load those first rounds. Had a buddy at work who was a great help/mentor assist me with the details of handloading. He was also a great service rifle competitor and Bullseye pistol champ. I still remember the excitement when I fired off those first rounds. I had an old teachers desk in my apartment that I could clamp all my tools to. Redding powder measure, Lyman dies, those were fun days. Still have that rifle too (and the rockchucker).

I actually kept the very first round I ever made. It was new Win 308 Brass, loaded with Varget (dont remember the load) with a 169SMK BTHP with Fed primer.. Its still sitting on my shelf on my reloading bench.

If you look closely, in my upper shelf, right in the middle, on the left of what looks like a gray RCBS 9mm die set box is my first ever reloaded round I made.

I remember mine from about 20 years ago....57 grains of powder under a 150 gr. Ballistic Tip in a .30-06 fired out of a Remington 700 BDL. I still have that 100 yard target hanging above my reloading bench.
