I have to question the price and if the scope has been repaired at that price. Either that or Viridian is going to or has discontinued them. Viridian still lists them on their website at $419. Yes we all know manufacturer prices are higher than retailers but that is an awful big price difference.

All I can say is do your diligent homework before buying.

Viridian is not some no-name Chinese company who may not be around to honor the warranty. (Picture from Google Map)

Viridian® is the technology leader in the firearms industry, responsible for a number of product innovations in green and red laser sights, FACT weapon-mounted cameras, taclights, ECR® INSTANT-ON® Activation, TacLoc® holsters, and shooting accessories. Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Viridian is devoted to utilizing cutting-edge technology to offer compact, powerful self-defense products for the civilian, military, and law enforcement markets. Viridian products are designed and built in the USA."

Viridian is a relatively young American company and website indicates their products are made in the USA - https://viridianweapontech.com/company
Viridian products are designed and built in the USA.
However, Serac/Venta/Eon pages indicate scopes are made outside of USA - https://viridianweapontech.com/products/optics/viridian-serac-rifle-scope-6-24x50-sf-sfp-reticle
Viridian Optics products are produced with our international manufacturing partners and imported to Viridian for direct sale to customers without retail distribution.
Viridian caught my attention when Ruger offered Eon 3-9x40mm scope with 10/22 after offering Viridian laser sights on their firearms - https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/ruger-10-22-viridian-3-9x40-22-ammo-and-more/

Being selected as factory Ruger OEM laser sight and scope supplier is HUGE as Ruger sells more firearms than all the other major brands sold in the US COMBINED each year - https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/sturm-ruger-leads-firearms-manufacturing-in-the-u-s/

I have to question the price and if the scope has been repaired at that price. Either that or Viridian is going to or has discontinued them.

All I can say is do your diligent homework before buying.
So while Viridian manufactures their laser, light and weapon camera products in the USA (likely with globally sourced components), their new optics line of Eon/Venta/Serac scopes maybe rebranded foreign manufactured products.

So as OEM supplier to Ruger with potential to sell quite a number of scopes combined with 10/22 or individually as Eon/Venta/Serac lines, there is a lot at stake for Viridian to select the proper manufacturer for their scope lines.

As to the scope I ordered, it was advertised as "new" and not "demo" or "damaged package". And Serac line having been just introduced, there is no indication that it's being discontinued.

Looking forward to hearing what you think!
Serac scope arrived today. Plan on doing 100 yard testing with 10/22 and T/CR22 in coming days.

Compared to Burris 6.5-20x50mm mounted on T/CR22

Included in the box were 50% off one item coupon, Viridian sticker, cleaning cloth with Allen wrench along with registration card. Flip up scope covers were not mentioned in the advertisement but were included (Nice touch).

Yeah turrets look straight off the newer bugbuster i had, the rest looks familiar also......
But anyway that dosent matter a whole lot lol
Whats your initial impression considering the cost?

Does it have a country of origin labelled on it anywhere?
It's got "Made in China" sticker at the bottom but these days, that could mean a wide range of things in terms of materials used, construction, assembly and quality control.

Bright sunny day today and compared Viridian scope to Burris scope at a power transformer more than 100 yards away (I estimate around 120 yards) using 20x power.

Both scopes provided bright and clear field of view to the edge without distortion and reading small letters was no problem. Since Burris scope focus was already made for my 100 yard 22LR test, images were immediately sharp. It took some time for me to get the parallax and eye piece focus sharp but real test would be at 100 yard 22LR test on the Lead Sled as the shooting spot is shaded most of the day and will provide low light testing, especially in the later part of the day.

I will also attempt box testing to check turret tracking.

Absolutely - country of origin is less about a presumption of quality and more about to whom you’re giving your money. Carry on! :)

Yep, the Bushnell Forge scope is made in China, and it's a pretty good scope. Everyone tells me it's what the scope company asks for/ holds them accountable for, as to the degree of quality. The Chinese can make things as good or as bad as needed. Yep, the old adage still applies, you get what you pay for, but also what you hold then accountable for.

I hear you.

It's partly why I now push for Burris made in Philippines and Bushnell Trophy/Banner made in Korea.

My desire to check out and support Viridian is they are USA company building their products in the USA (Employing workers in the US with the exception of rebranding scope lines). For THR members looking for lower cost optics, Viridian may be "lesser of the two" compared to buying scopes from other companies who do not build any products in the USA. To me, Viridian being associated with Ruger is another big plus.

I wonder why it is SFP instead of FFP with a mil reticle.

Which power are the mils correct for?
UPDATE: Email sent to [email protected]
This video illustrates SFP vs FFP

This video explains Viridian may have gone to SFP due to simpler manufacturing/cost (1:00 minute of video) with greater durability and strengths/weaknesses (9:55 minute) in line with their motto of "100% essential and 0% BS" to provide their customers scopes with essential key features without added cost at different Eon/Venta/Serac line levels.

Range Report #10: 100 yard test with Aguila 40 gr CPRN and ambient temperature of 43F - Viridian Serac 6-24x50mm (30mm tube) turret tracking box test.
  • 10/22 with factory barrel (Round count 5750, brushed twice with copper bore brush and 3 passes each) - Volquartsen trigger 2.25 lbs (Trigger round count 1750) - Barrel free floated with plastic shim under V block - Rear of receiver better secured to stock (Ruger factory modular stock) with 1 strip of electrical tape - Tactical Solutions V block - Pike Arms red bolt buffer - Power Custom pinned match bolt (Titanium firing pin/extractor) - Viridian Serac 6-24x50mm - Viridian high profile 30mm scope rings
Inch square grid pdf target was used - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?resources/inch-square-grid.22/

NOTE: Viridian Serac turrets are 1/8 MOA

Although ambient temperature reading was 43F, shaded shooting area ground was frozen with sheets of ice and white frost covered the entire area. Ammunition used was stored indoors kept at 62F.

Green circle at top left was aim point for 4 groups and only turrets were adjusted. First high shot (I really need to stop sneezing when I am shooting ... Can I blame frozen shooter finger? ... Took some deep breaths and commenced shooting first group)
  • First group measured less than 1.25" center-to-center. Horizontal turret adjustment was made 20 clicks right and turret ring was tightened (Why 20 clicks? Well, for some reason I must have been thinking 1/4 MOA) and 24 clicks should have moved the POI 3 inches.
  • Second group measured 1.25" and vertical turret adjustment was made 24 clicks down and turret ring was tightened.
  • Third group measured 1.00" and horizontal turret adjustment was made 20 clicks left and turret ring was tightened.
  • Fourth group measured 1.25".

I got to the shooting spot in the afternoon and finished around 4:30 PM. Since shooting area stays in the shade most of afternoon, it provides good low light testing of scopes.

Using 20x power looking at inch square grid target, brightness was comparable to Burris FF E1 scope but Viridian Serac took more time and care to get the sharpness focused. Both scopes' parallax was adjusted several times and 100 yard setting provided the sharpest focus.

Viridian Serac having 24x power, I maxed out the zoom for turret tracking box test.

looks like there might be a bit of wandering there.

I understand that, which isn't the question, well, unless you count they did it because it's cheaper, bad reason. I still wonder what power the mils are correct at. Really no good reason to have a mil reticle in a SFP scope these days IMHO. Yea, Nightforce does it too, I get that, still....

Which power are the mils correct for?
Perhaps I can email customer service.

Looking forward to hearing what you think!
Run it through its paces yet?
Wife and I have been doing yard work on our acreage during warmer sunny days of 50s-60s but she injured her shoulder so I have been busy doing most of yard work AND doing house chores as well while continuing with all the cooking. :p

Ordered EGW 20 MOA rail for 10/22 so planning on shooting more 100 yard groups when it arrives.

I also ordered Vortex Crossfire II 6-24x50 AO so will do side-by-side comparison along with Burris FF E1 6.5-20x50.
