I was wondering what a VZ-24 30.06 converted Mauser goes for. It has an ATI composite stock, scope mounts, and a hinged aluminum trigger guard. I am just wanting to know a going price.

When your hobby is turning the mil-surp into something else then the $ does not matter, unless it is $$$. I have rebuilt vz 24's, 98K's, and getting ready to re-do a 24/47 into other calibers. Sure, I could go and buy a factory gun for a few $ less than what I spend on re-build's, but who really cares. I am not The Donald and do not need to make a buck on every thing I touch.

And they all shoot great, they will kill a deer at several hundred yards, and are a great talking point for us non-pro's.

Hey there Ruddie. I am currently in the process of building a 30-06 from a vz-24 action. Don't let the purists mess with your head on this one. I have built several calibers from Mauser actions and I do it for the hobby and not for $$. First off, don't rebuild on a $500 mil-surp action. Second, they are a lot cheaper than that. Third, if you get a good bubba/builder/smithy then it will last as long as anything you get off the shelf and probably outshoot it to boot. And as always, pretty don't always mean accuracy.

Who made the barrel?...........................chris3

VZ-24 = Czechoslovakia made Mauser............................

I lucked up on the barrel, receiver, bolt assembly, and trigger group for $25. It had already been converted to a 30.06 cal. All I need is a stock, action screws, and the whole trigger guard assembly. I have already had a gunsmith check out the barrel assembly. He said it was a good buy. I didn't know if it was worth building or not.

If all you need is the stock and some bottom metal go for it.

The VZ24 never came in 30-06. He was inquiring who made the barrel that is currently on the rifle.

I have a VZ24 in the safe that I want to convert to 35 Whelen. Maybe someday I will get a round to it.

quality is everything on the sporterized mausers i just finished building a vz24 featherweight in 6.5x55 and with peep sights and already had offers of 525$. so it just depends on the quality of the rifle and how nice it looks.

I'm not one for just throwing something together. I'll take my time and build it right. If I'm short on money, I'll wait. By the time I'm done, it should be worth while.
The barrel was already converted when I got it, so as far as it being my doing, it wasn't. I'm working with what I got.

You can't convert a VZ24 barrel to 3006 without sleeving it first. The bore of a VZ24 is 7.9? mm where the 3006 is 7.62 mm. The only way to make the conversion right is to replace the barrel.....chris3

Alternatively, you could rechamber it to .30-06 and neck up .30-06 cases to 8mm.

Just stick with the 8mm cartridge. It is a good cartridge that will do anything a 3006 will do.....chris3

All I know is that it has been rechambered to shoot a 30.06. My gunsmith checked it out and said it was safe to shoot a 30.06. I would assume that the barrel has been changed.
I am planning on getting another 8mm Mauser setup for hunting as well. I guess it'll be up to whichever I like in the end.
I have a Mosin Nagant I hunt with but why not have more guns, right?

Are we talking about two rifles here? One complete, one not?

Sorry, its one rifle. The barrel is aftermarket and installed properly and safe per my gunsmith.
I have purchased an ATI stock for it. All I need is 2 action screws and a trigger guard assembly.

I need a good scope too... I know very little about scoped so if anyone has a suggestion, that would be awesome...

Change of mind and money.... That's what my original build would have consisted of.... Now I just want the blasted thing together.

I see. You can get action screws from Brownell's. Either slot or hex (allen) heads. Gunbroker.com or Numrich Gun parts will have trigger guards, floor plates, mag followers and springs.

My local gunsmith has one trigger guard assembly and the screws I need for $55 total. I have a hard time accepting that price. I'm unfimilar what the standard price would be on something like that. If that's a somewhat reasonable price than I'll just have to eat it.

That is reasonable. The individual parts from Numrich parts breaks down as (1)trigger guard @$28.95,(2)floorplate @ $11.95, (3)follower @ $5.00,(4)follower spring, guard screws @ $3.00 ea.x2= $6.00 and (5)capture screws(optional) @ $2.25 x2=$4.50, you may also need the floorplate latchpin and spring for an additional $3.10. Now add in shipping($6-$12.00). My advice is to grab that triggerguard assemble fast!

I'm torn on having the 30.06 barrel recrowned or replacing it with an 8mm barrel. I like shooting my rifles as much as I can and this one is going to be no different. I'm pretty sure that 30.06 ammo is a bit more pricy than 8mm surplus.
Of course I'll run hunting ammo in when I'm hunting with it. The only thing is having the barrel recrowned will cost me $80 and I'm unsure on buying another barrel and having it installed. I'm sure my gunsmith has one or two laying around, I just don't know how much he'll let it go for plus installation.
I'm open for opinions.
