I saw a compact Walther P99 QA at the gun store. Anybody know if this is a good gun? I'm considering it for a conceal gun.

where did you see it?

I've been waiting for our Scheels store to get them in, where are you located.

After much research, I think the Walther is the way to go for a 10-shot 9mm in compact size.

I live in CA.

I just bought one of them 2 days ago. Can't wait for the waiting period to be over. Nice gun.

I was somewhat disappointed to see though that it can only fire from the cocked position. If you de-cock it with a shot loaded, it won't fire. You have to cock it again with the slide since there is no hammer. And the problem with that is you expel an unused bullet.

The QA can be cocked with a round in the chamber. Retract the slide about 1/4". It is not easy (you have to keep yourself from pulling the slide back too far), but it can done.

The Walther P99 is also available in a DA/SA version.

Okay, it can be done but was it meant to be done that way? I/E the owner's manual say it's okay to do?

We know there are DA/SA ones but were only talking about the QA ;)

I own the P99 QA 9mm and I love it, in the beginning I wanted the AS model which I own a fullsize of in 9mm but I settled for the compact QA once I saw one in a local gunshop.

Main reason I bought it is that around these parts the P99 compact has been rare as hen’s teeth so when this one popped up I purchased it w/o hesitation.

I am pleased with it, she is accurate as hell for a small compact 9, the trigger is nice (think LEM) holds 11 rounds and fits my hands nicely, easy to conceal. I carry it in a DeSantis OWB leather holster.

QA means Single Action. If you want to be able to fire the gun from a decocked position you ned the P99 AS (SA/DA).

QA is more of a neither nor. I just wanted the compact version of the P99 that's all. I don't believe they ever offered a non QA compact 9.

Just the opposite here, my local store has the P99c in AS since last Oct, but they still haven't got the QA version yet.
