I have an oppurtunity locally to purchase a Walther PPK for $200. Now I know thats a good deal but the catch is that it is completly dissassembled. the owner said he took it apart years ago and never put it back together. He Thinks that everything is there but is not 100% sure.
First instinct was to jump on it for the price and figure the rest out later. I poked around online and had trouble finding any solid information on how to reassemble these pistols, and I have very limited knowloedge on the subject. I know how to field strip this gun but that is it.
With my limited knowloedge do you think I could handle putting this gun back together with a solid set of instructions?
Do you guys think with this hassle and maybe bigger problems it is still worth the price?
I am yet to see the gun but he said its in great shape and never had any problems firing.
I was also wondering if there are certain parts (besides the obvious slide/frame) that I should make sure are there because they are more expensive and/or hard to find.

Thanks for all of your help in advance

If it is an Interarms or better yet, German manufacture, do it without delay. Putting them back together isn't that difficult.

Here is a helpful link and diagram:

IIRC, getting the little cam in right was the hardest part.

Thanks for the advice, ive looked at that picture 100 times and thought "I can figure that out". Who knows if I can though...would I need a lot of specialty tools or just basic small screwdrives and taps I would already have in the garage?

Just would hate to see my $200 investment turn into $200 for the gun $200 for parts and $200 in smith work ya know?

Thanks again

It has been a while since I had mine, and even longer since I detail stripped one. But IIRC as long as you have basic tools and some punches, you should be fine. I think there were a couple of pins, but they weren't hard to remove/install. Hopefully someone who has more recent experience will correct or confirm.

That's the "caveat": I'd pass on it. I picked up a slightly used PPK for $325 w/2 mags not too long ago. Think about it...If so, good luck, they are great pistols. BTW, examine the parts carefully....:)
P.S. Tell him to put it back together and you'll pay him $300 for a fully functioning pistol....

I paid $200. for a PP several years ago in a similar state but it was a Nazi marked early WW2 version and that made the 'pig-in-a-poke' purchase worthwhile to me.

Although a couple of pieces WERE missing I did finally get it together and was able to fire it. I never did get it to feed reliably though so it had some of the issues back then that people complain of today.

You can buy a brand spanking new one for $486. delivered from Bud's anytime you want it - same price blued or stainless.

Thanks for the help, I think I'm gonna head out and check it over this weekend. I figure if I pay around $100 more to get it up and running if I can't figure it out it's still a good price on a low round count gun. If everything looks decent I might just take the plunge. If I do keep an eye out for further posts....hillarity is sure to follow on my little adventure.

Thanks again!!
