I've been thinking, a lot of what I have are budget builds. They all go bang are do what I need them to just like more expensive stuff. However, there's just something about owning the higher end stuff I suppose. I also own brand like Remington Mossberg, Stag, Springfield, etc so I don't have a safe full of only inexpensive stuff.

I haven't narrowed it down to what type of "higher end" firearm(s) I am after. I likely won't make it a standard AR, but I could see it end up being some sort of AR pistol. Shotgun? Possibly, but my shotguns are what I shoot the least.

I want to keep it 9mm, .223/5.56, 22LR or .40 S&W. I would consider .45 if it is a 1911, but would I be fine with a higher end 9mm 1911 or should that be .45 no matter what?

I know I want a .22LR lever gun & 1911.

1911 should be .45. .38super is a fossil. 9mm 1911's have at least ten times more issues than any other 1911. 10mm is fine. I recommend the Dan Wesson Valor, TCP, or Specialist. Black Duty Treat only. And Guncrafter Industries, house melonite as well.

9mm, but high end? The CZ Ts2. CZ Shadow 2. CZ Czechmate.

Steyr AUG and FN SCar 16s are at the top of the rifle list right now
Not sure what 1911 to consider for $1k ish or less (Or if anything there is worth it) 9mm or 45 only for the 1911.

Higher end 9mm = Something in a Sig 226 platform.

SIG SAUER P226 for sale, SIG P226 9mm full-size pistol series

If you want to pay for 45 ammo there are lots of good 1911 options.

There are no current production 22 lever guns that I'd touch with a 10' pole. Look for a used Winchester 9422, but expect to pay 4 digits for it. A Marlin 39 would be a distant 2nd option.

There are literally a ton of good AR's to choose from today. I'd have a hard time picking just one. But will say this, the ones in the $700ish price range are more gun than 99% of shooters need. If you NEED, and can use one costing more, then you already know enough that you wouldn't be asking advice here.

"High end". What a subjective term. I have a couple of Benelli shotguns, which I consider more high-end than my Mossburg, but what are they compared to a Purdy? I have a Bergara rifle, it's fine, but you could spend thousands more on a custom-built piece. My Colt Gold Cup is a fine pistol, but it still costs a lot more for a Wilson or Ed Brown or whatever. Are those any "better". Maybe "high-end" just means it's as expensive as you can afford? Find what you like and gives you pride of ownership.

Order a catalog from Rock Island Auction, Morphy Auctions, or other well established auction house to get a better sense of what gets the juices flowing. We all have our biases and ideas of what we would do if we had the resources, but it's silly to buy a high end gun just because it's a high end gun. You are likely to pay too much and your tastes may well change over the years. Take your time, do the due diligence, and figure out what something is worth to you, not the other guy.

1911 and lever .22, tough to go wrong with Colt and Winchester. I've always liked the Browning BL 22, but I'm not sure how that would compare to a 9422.

I had an aluminum framed 9mm Colt Commander 1911 that I couldn't shoot nearly as well as an RIA, and a 2nd model Colt Cobra that wasn't the gun my Model 60 S&W is, but still, a Colt seems to be a cut above a working man's gun.

"high end" on a pistol gets you hand checkering and stippling etc.
"high end" on a rifle gets you capability
"high end" on a shotgun... i wouldn't know because i'm not going to spend $30k on a shotgun

look at knight's armament's ARs and especially SR25s
look at Accuracy International's lineup
and stuteville precision

somewhat alternately, i've always wanted one of these in 12 bore

when i get old, i'll prob try to get one.

Easy, AR pistol with multiple uppers in 9mm, .40 SW, 223 Wylde with a .22lr conversion or a .22lr upper. That way you cover everything on a single platform.

If you just want to spend money, you might look for a transferable machinegun. You can blow well north of $20k and get something that is the same as something that costs 20 x less except for one feature, that also eats money.

I think SVI pistols are something to behold machine work wise. They are so smooth they make other high end pistols feel gritty. Everything is machined from billet except for springs and mag flats. They really are ridiculously smooth.

There are lots of used benchrest rifles out there that are given away as far as what is invested in them and while they may not get a win anymore, they will likely outshoot anything you have or have had, unless you are already an enthusiast of the game.
