Just bought a quad rail for an AK-74 that I'm building. (I'm keeping one original so don't think I bubba all my guns) Anyway I want to put a light on it but I can't find one that isn't 80+. What does anyone need a $200+ light for anyway? The most expensive one I saw for $550! Did anyone else have this problem?

I don't own one, but my guess is that the cheaper lights will not stand the test of time, nor will there be a warranty when it breaks.

Cry once. Buy once.

Cheapest viable option for you is the Streamlight TLR-1. These can be had for under 80 dollars used, check the Equipment Exchange on ARFCOM, they come up all the time, several times a week it seems. I picked up a TLR-1 there for $65 a month ago. Anything less than a TLR-1 will not last as a weapon light.

I have a LED streamlight (the one without the laser) it was around 100 bucks and thats a bargan. Like Shienhausser said they put out A LOT of light and take the recoil and concusion of a firearm going off. A purpose built light includes a bunch of features that you would have to rig up on a standard flashlight like a mounting ($20 bucks) and a switch that works with the gun and is reliable ($20-$30?).

I have tried to rig normal flashlights up for weapons and it always has fallen short of expectations or was more expensive than the light I should have bought.
