Well, Tomorrow is the 1st Monday....

Yeah

But I wonder if the SCOTUS has any regards for media "tactics". That is, announce the decision tomorrow, the Monday before the last Democratic primaties and just after the DNC rules committee met. Could be thinking the decision is lost in "noise" coming from other areas as opposed to major focus on it.

What immediate effect would a favorable ruling have on the folks in DC? Would they be able to go out the following day and purchase arms? Would their registration, gun-lock laws, etc. still be in effect?

It's a cliffhanger. If the Supreme Court gets a large enough audience eager for this season's finale they get renewed for the next season.

I hope it is today. I feel like a kid before Christmas.

In Ohio, we just passed the "Castle Doctrine" and I am hoping for a big WIN with Heller. This could be getting good. :D

It won't be today.
2 or 3 more weeks of suspense before the decision comes down.
They're going to take their time writing up these historical opinions.Every word on both sides is going to be analyzed and critiqued over and over for possibly decades.
So,IMO,the end of June is more likely.

Grrr

...the hands of time have spoken for the chosen ones...cold steel glistens in the dawning sun..."

I now have a vague idea of what Wellington felt like before Waterloo!

It will be the very last day they can possibly deliver an opinion on this case that they do - not a moment before. What incentive do they have to rush?

I doubt the ruling will come today... I also beleave they will make a very narrow ruling.

"I always know, I made the right decision when neither side is happy"

Today at the Supreme Court | 6.2.08

At 10 a.m., the Court is expected to release at least one opinion, as well as orders from the Justices’ private conference last Thursday. We will provide links to both as soon as they are available.

Saw that too, keeping my fingers crossed.

What immediate effect would a favorable ruling have on the folks in DC?
Immediate grounds for overturning the prohibition on out-of-jurisdiction retail handgun purchases (however it is precisely worded). The right to own something means little if there's nobody willing/able to sell you it legally. The only FFL I know of in DC belongs to the head of an anti-gun group, and I doubt he's interested in selling anything.

Just cases about winning reimbursement for paralegal fees and if concealing cash during transport is money laundering or not.

Great, now next week I'll be sitting here hitting refresh on the Scotusblog and supremecourt.gov pages. Thanks for letting me down today, SCOTUS!

Yeah but someone could get a C&R and get C&R handguns until there's a dealer in DC...
True, but not my point.

There is now a rare opportunity to attack the unconstitutional prohibition on private citizens purchasing legal products out-of-state. Anywhere else it would be a shut-up-and-find-an-FFL theory; in DC it will be an immediate can't-buy-one-means-no-right reality.
