So my GF and I regularly go shooting. But her family are certainly not shooters, her father was an avid hunter but has not really touched a gun for upwards of 20yrs. Her older sister served 4yrs in the National Guard but was in a job where other than basic training she had almost no weapons exposure.
So we headed out to Tacoma Sportsmen club today, it was my first visit there.
So the guns that we took were-
1. Mosin Nagent M44
2. Mossberg 151k .22lr- This is my GF's fathers he recieved it many years ago and it has not been out of the closet much at all in the last 30yrs and never fired in the last 20
3. Rossi .22lr break action matched pair .22lr/ .410 shotgun
4. Sig Mosquito .22lr
5. Ruger Mark II Government Target .22lr
6. M&P .40s&w
I have to say the look on her fathers face when he saw his "little girl" out shoot him was pretty priceless. He had a great time and loved to get back out to the range, we no sooner had finished than he was saying "make sure you bring your guns next time you visit"
Her older sister (Afganistan Vet) was a pretty interesting case, she was very worried that the range had less structure than a military firing line but she adapted quickly.
So here were the verdicts:
GF's Dad- LOVED TO GO TO THE RANGE CANT WAIT TO GO BACK AND IS NOW BEGGING HIS WIFE TO LET HIM BUY A MARK II BECAUSE HE REALLY LIKED MINE. He also found an old box of CCI minimags from at least 15yr's ago that was marked $.79 for 50/rnds. It shot perfectly.
GF's sister- much more confident now and loved the fact that she got to shoot a handgun for the first time. She liked the Mosquito a lot but did not really like the Mark II. She also thought my Mosin was quite a kick but really liked it after she got use to it.
GF- as usual had a great time. Thought it was great that she outshot her Dad but did not feel the need to rub it in, it was a personal victory.
Me- loved it but most of all loved teaching my GF's father about my guns it really made him light up, he has given me a lot over the past year so it was nice to give back a little.
I also want to mention that TSC was a great experience.
