Anybody care to organize a Saturday shoot in western PA, say anywhere up to three hours from Pgh? I don't have the time to organize, but I'd make an effort to participate. Doesn't have to be a big do; just like to get together with some other THR folks.

I'm a local Range Officer. We run USPSA and IDPA matches in your area.

Whatcha got in mind?

I'm not in IDPA, but I know that IDPA shoots are run at the Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club, which is...maybe 45 minutes to an hour outside of PGH. I was there for the first time recently; nice setup. You can find them online at http://www.greaterpghgunclb.com/.

I'm not a member, but even so, range time was cheap and I had an IDPA-style bunker all to myself, so it was quite a nice time.

I don't reallly have the capacity to attend in the near future--my Saturdays are eaten up by kids and wedding planning. But there is a place to go nearby!

I'd love to attend will help with food, clean up, etc. but I don't have a proper facility.

Lychanthrope, I'm in Beaver County, so Castlewood may be closer to me than the Pgh options. I'll check out the web site, look at the schedule, and see if I can get up for a shoot.

I've been shooting for years, and have trained at LFI, Insights, and Storm Mountain ... but I've never done any competitive pistol shooting. Any Castlewood-specific tips for a new competitor? Best just to show up some evening, or make arrangements in advance with a league director? Advice welcome!

Sure. Castlewood is pretty close to you....either up 60N or 18N depending on your area. We have an informal practice every Thursday evening and the public is always welcome. Our next USPSA match is 5-13-06, so we'll be doing some setup of props on the 11th as well as one practice stage. You're welcome to join us and the stages will be posted soon on our website so you'll know what you're getting into. I'd also be happy to run down the basic rules and expectations of various pistol local competitions if you want.

The USPSA match will be 5 stages and you'll need at least 100 rounds. Cost is $15 for your first run and $5 for reshoots. If you let me know what you're shooting I can help you with equipment rules. Or...just go here:

Can't make the 11th (or the 13th) due to work commitments; too bad, as I'd like to see a match. But things lighten up after this week, and I'll try to get up soon.

This thread is veering from its original purpose, a general THR get-together, so I'll take future communications to PM. Thanks.

Count me in for the next shoot. There are some scheduled shoots next weekend at GPGC that are supposed to be pretty good. I put 200 rounds through my AR there yesterday.
