Larry,
The question was "most popular" in 2006.

I answered "that" question.

I was nice about the 870 I posted, because I was a frogs hair away of typing 870 with gidgets, gadgets, fuzzy dice and curb feelers, it is not popular to learn how to shoot, it is popular to bolt stuff on and off, and buy skill and targets....but I didn't...:)

If I ever face a person with shotgun, may it be a PGO, with everything bolted onto it. Odds and Lady Luck in my favor that person has never shot the gun, and I will beat him like a drum with his own boy toy. I have done this in impromtu training with such a keyboard armchair commando.

Now ask me what MY top 10 guns are? Different list, and the 1911 at the top.

I want the person with the worn holster, worn bluing, and if a shotgun, plain vanilla , worn, scratched, bluing wear. watching my six.

Give me 1911Tuner with a Gov't model of 1911, a Kframe, his rabbit earred double bbl shotgun and his Model 94 in 30-30...my six is safe.

Smoke Rizen with his preference,
Old Fuff with his
Dave Mc
Lee Lapin
...etc...not meaning to leave anyone out

Perhaps these folks are not using the 2006 most popular - they can shoot!

Remington 700
Remington 870
Sig P220 or P226
Any Fal varient
.22 Ruger rifles and pistols

Its only 6, but what more could you need?

Most popular?

In terms of production? popularity? Or what? I'm not sure what you are asking for, so in no particular order:

1. AK & variants
2. 1911 & variants
3. AR 15/M16
4. Glock 17
5. Win model 94
6. win mod 70
7. rem mod 700
8. rem mod 870
9. beretta mod 92
10. browning 50 cal machine gun (used on tanks, planes, etc)

1911's
AR pattern rifles
AK pattern rifles
Springfield XD
Remington 700
Benelli Nova Shotguns
Beretta CX-4 Storm
Beretta U22 NEOS
Ruger 10/22
Ruger Mini 14

I guess since that's ten I gotta cap my self off there(pun not intended hehehe), sad part is I'm not a Ruger or Beretta fan by any stretch.

Rev. Michael

P.S.
If I could add some they would be.....
M1 Garand(and all variants modern or otherwise)
Browning .50 Cal
Barret .50 Sniper
M82 Sniper
Thompson (old school tommy gun)
Colt SAA
Steyr Pistols(the newer bugger with the trapezoidal sights)
Cobb FA50
IMI P2000
IMI Desert Eagle

*EDIT*
Almost forgot a few
Wildey .45
Uzi SMG's and Pistols
ORIGINAL INGRAM M10/11 SMG
Sten Mk3 and up

*EDIT 2*
Oh the most popular in 2006, not what I consider the best, ok thats easy

Remington 700
AR pattern
AK pattern
1911
Springfield XD
Glock(any caliber but .45 thanks to too many blowing up while using federal ammo)
Remington 870
Benelli Nova
Mossberg Short barrel shotguns with pistol grip.

What would be considered the ultimate ?

Thanks for those

I wonder if most are happy with what you bought
and what would be considered the ultimate

Very interesting. Ive listed them at

http://aussieseek.proboards25.com/index.cgi

I got some in also from our usenet feed and some from the gun posters on our site and thought you might like to see them.

Im wondering what Guns rule worldwide ans what are allowed in each country.

Advocate was kind enough to answer
I personally have no idea...but I'd guess that the Ruger 10/22 must be one
of the most popular rifles sold today. Glock handguns certainly must be at
the top of overall handgun sales as well.
I wouldn't mind having a dime for every Mossberg 500 pump shotgun that
leaves the retail stores daily...I would think that the Remington 870
Express sales are right up there too.
I don't have a clue what centerfire rifle is at the top...Winchester is
gone, so that would leave Savage 11*, Remington 700 and Ruger 77mkII...at
least those would be the popular choices here in the Midwest.

You can't forget both the historical, and recent popularity of the 1911's.

But I definately have to agree with the mossberg 500 and the remington 700,
both here in norfolk and back home in north buttfudge, va.

In America? Rifle - Ruger 10/22 semiauto .22 rifle far and away
leads among .22 rimfire. SKS 7.62x39mm among centerfire rifles. AR-15
also very popular - but I doubt as many have sold as of the SKS.
Pistol? Ruger MkII dominates .22 rimfire field. No clear candidate
dominates the centerfire-pistol field - but the leading brands are
Glock, Beretta, Sig, and (maybe) Kel-Tec in current sales. 1911 and
clone .45 ACPs very popular.
Revolver? Taurus and Ruger - in a wide variety of models in .22
rimfire, .38 Special, .357 Magnum.

No question about the Ruger being the best sellor and probably the
single most common firearm around.
> SKS 7.62x39mm among centerfire rifles.
I would argue a bolt-action rifle in some 30-cal round (especially
30/06) as the most common centerfire gun. Again, there is little
question that the SKS is the most common centerfire automatic.
However, there are a lot of M-1 carbines around too.
> AR-15 also very popular - but I doubt as many have sold as of the SKS.
AR-15's are hundreds, if not thousands of $. I have seen SKS' for as
little as $100 or so.

My wild guess is the 1911 colt is the single most common centerfire
pistol.

True, Tauus and Ruger sell a lot more guns these days, But don't
forget all those S&W and (maybe) colt revolvers made for decades that
never wear out

"Bolt-action rifle in 'some' 30-cal round" includes a lot of
DIFFERENT model rifles and a lot of rifles chambered for DIFFERENT
cartridges (.308, .30-06, .300 Win. Mag., etc.) - but the SKS is ONE
model made for ONE cartridge. That's why I'd rate it easily the
most-popular centerfire rifle - of any type, not just semiauto - in
America now.
>However, there are a lot of M-1 carbines around too.
It's hard to say how many were brought home from various wars by GIs
- but one thing is indicative: there always seems to be a lot more
demand for the ammo that the SKS takes than for the ammo the M-1
Carbine takes.

No $6 admission!

He didn't give a date range; but I suspect the biggest seller has been
lever actions. They won the west.
