Several posts here recently have mentioned rifles and Hollywood, such as identifying the sniper rifle from "Kelly's Heroes" and "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg, so I wanted to ask, what gun related movies are favorites to those who frequent THR. Here is my short list:

The Wild Geese ( FAL Porn at its best!)
Silverado-my favorite Western
Band of Brothers-great and accurate WW2
Saving Private Ryan-see above
Shooter-sniper flick
The Man who Would be King-great actors and it involves smuggling Martini-Henry's.
Quigley Down Under-Tom Selleck makes great Westerns!
Sniper-the original w/ Tom Berenger, avoid the sequels!
Enemy at the Gates-Great WW2 flick!
Man on Fire-underrated Denzel Washington revenge flick.

I have more that I like, but the ones above are all DVD's that I dont mind watching multiple times.

Other Peoples lists????

"Unforgiven" - In my opinion, one of the great all time westerns, while were on westerns, also great is "The Shootist"

"Ronin" with Robert DiNiro. No spectacular gun tricks, but notable for examples of people handling pistols like they knew what they were doing.

The Outlaw Josey Wales
Collateral
Godfather 2
Taxi Driver
Death Wish

The aforementioned are good, but The Shootist is great.

There is no such thing as a bad John Wayne western movie. Every time I watch one I am ten years old again.
I've got to disagree. Have you ever seen "Ghengis Khan"? Of course that could be considered an "Eastern" :)

Open Range

Way of the Gun(good gun handling, except for the fact no one can hit anything)

The Kingdom(Great rolling ambush scene)

PS. I hated "Shooter". And it was an excellent book. I was very disappointed in Stephen Hunter for alowing them to bastardize it so much

1.High Noon (1952)Gary Cooper
2.The Searchers(1956)John Wayne
3.Shane (1953)Alan Ladd
4.Where Eagles Dare(1969)Richard Burton & Clint Eastwood
5.Winchester 73(1950)James Stewart
6.Stagecoach(1939)John Wayne
7.The Dirty Dozen(1967)Lee Marvin
8.Goodfellas(1990)Robert DeNiro
9.Heat(1995)Al Pacino
10.Sands of Iwo Jima(1949)John Wayne
11.Once Upon a Time in America(1984)Robert Deniro
12.White Heat(1949)James Cagney

I like all genres!:)
