Hello friends and neighbors \\ I don't know about Oregon but here are a few things I do in South cackalacky.
#1 ) Scout spot with shooting lanes leading to water or dense brush with wind in your face. If restricted to ground can you use tent stand there? Tepee of 1 1/2 foot wide X 6 foot long camo painted burlap strips work but might smell too strong this late, Pinesol might help with that.
#2) If you can, get at least 6 feet above ground ...trees ,rocks or sit at top of gully behind dead fall, preferably with some back cover)\\ Safer shooting angle on public lands \\ easier to spot deer, harder for deer to spot you.
I never have round chambered when climbing...pulling firearm up...I also consider what I might fall on... sharp rocks ... impaleing pine stubs...fire ant nests. ( don't think you have them in Oregon )
#3) Get to spot at least 45 min. before you are allowed to shoot in morning and stay late. Other hunters leaving might start deer your way, stay till 10:00 -10:30. Get back to stand/spot 30 min before other hunters in evening,, stay till last minute .(don't forget good flash light)
#4) Wait it out, try not to move too much, don't react when you first see deer . Take your time, if you see them they don't smell you so you are half way home. Bring up rifle in sloooooowwwww motion don't disengage safty till sighted in . Click\ Boom
#5 ) Hope you don't have too far to haul monster buck! ;- )
Hasn't quite worked in the monster buck catagory but I'm eatin.
