What are your OTHER expensive hobbies besides guns?

Just bought a brand new 2007 proline25ft offshore boat and I also collect uncirculated morgan silver dollars so far I have about 25 coins that are worth 20 time what my guns are worth but the logic is having something of value to leave my son. By the time he gets the coins they will be worth enough to put his kids thru college. Oh- and he gets all my guns to as long as he promises not to sell them.

Shotokan Karate
SCUBA Diving
Fishing
Canoe/Kayaking
European Martial Arts (Longsword, rapier, quarterstaff, etc...)

Motorcycles, quads, cross country skiing, snowboarding, ultra light backpacking equipment, books, and a masters degree.

Scotch. I'm looking at about $330 tied up in the six bottles on my desk right now.

Knives. Mostly Spyderco, but my two most expensive are Benchmade balisongs. Lots of fun.

Scuba Diving. Some of the gear can run you the price of a gun or even custom gun depending on what type of diving you do. Gear is pricey, but, it is life support equipment and I want it to work right everytime at 200'+.

What are your OTHER expensive hobbies besides guns?

My wife thinks I spend too much money on books.

I don't tend to think of guns as a hobby. I think of it as a skill that may some day, in the direst extreme, be useful.

In order from most expensive to least

My cars/motorcycles-1995 Buick Roadmaster soon to have police package suspension,Suzuki Samurai for having fun in the woods, 1999 ZRX1100:D, and 2004 KTM250EXC

Shooting and Reloading

my pens- I have used a fountain pen every day in class since the 6th grade and still use one every day in college, my collection is small but growing, I just ordered a nice NOS new in box Esterbrook M2 from Richard Binder, my Pelikan M800 would be the top of my collection, my Pilot vanishing point is my everyday pen, nothing is more satisfying or convenient than a clicky fountain pen, and I use a Rotring pencil for math and physics ( I do get a lot of odd looks:what: and questions, there must not be too many 19yr old pen aficionados out there these days)

My knives-16 and counting:), my like new air force issued Phrobis M9 being the crown jewel at the moment, was a gift from my friends father who is career military, got it(along with 3 others that my friend has) during the gulf war and didn't use it once or sharpen it, knife is mint, I edc a SOG Flash II, or a Kobalt folding utility knife at work

Pretty soon I would like to get back into archery and dig out my fly fishing gear, but I have sooo little time as it is between school and work:banghead:

Fast Eddie: Looks like the front office of a Piper Warrior II -- Early 80s vintage.
Charles Foxtrot, you have a discerning eye. Although I sold my interest in that ride earlier this year, I dumped so many $$ in it I feel morally justified in continuing to milk the claim as an expensive hobby. After I recover from the financial body blow of my wife's current hobby (kitchen re-model), I hope to resume buying $100 burgers.

Got a few other things can start adding up the costs . . .

But this one is well worth every penny.

Also have a boat, a 24-year-old sports car, guitars and a woodworking shop.

Boys and their toys.

I forgot to mention amateur astronomy in my last post.

I have a 12 inch....telescope, that is. Twelve inch diameter, 5 feet long. In addition, there are eyepieces (One new-to-the-market, wide-field eyepiece costs $650. Others can be purchased for as low as $50.), and several are needed for a range of magnification. There are filters to cut out background light that reduces contrast; filters to make planetary observation more rewarding; filters to make sun observation possible. There are larger finder-scopes; computer connections; collimation tools, etc. Then there is the bigger vehicle required to haul this stuff out to a dark site (becoming harder and harder to find nowadays).

rick newland: Those are some awesome Borzoi. What's your kennel name?

I have Scottish Deerhounds (Lyonhil lines), retired racing Greyhounds, and six horses. Three-day eventing can kill me quicker than any firearm.

Bicycles-- I only have 8 at this point. --Had to spend a few grand to build an add-on to the garage for storing them out of the weather. They are like guns, except usually more expensive and always harder to conceal. Most expensive one came in at about $4500.

Entomology

Now, before you think, "Bugs are cheap-- they find me!" there is quite a bit of equipment you have to outlay before you can do it right. Microscopes, nets, lights, collecting apparati, storage boxes, storage cabinets, etc. etc. Not to mention the time it takes. I'm re-building my basement to allow for a laboratory. Of course, I'm making a reloading bench as well.

Now, that's nothing compered to five kids. We have two handicapped-- try buying a pair of medical orthotics and other "specialized" medical equipment!

Still, wouldn't trade them for the world......
