Lenin said something along the line of "the capitalists will sell us the arms we will use to destroy them."

Rousing rhetoric, but I could walk into any gun shop (or some department stores!) in the United States and buy, not only American weapons, but those made by our ideological enemies, and they were cheap enough for anyone to afford. After making my legal purchase, I could legally take them home and legally shoot them.

And nobody at the range ever said a thing about the Communist guns I took to the range, other than to express interest in their design and manufacture.

Somehow, I don't think the comrades in Moscow were lining up at GUM to buy American small arms...
