Folks
I picked up a 50 cal muzzleloader pistol at an auction last weekend and the only marks it has on it is this:

E
LG

The logo has a circle around it. Only thing I have found is that the ELG logo is from Belgium. No other markings on it. there is extensive scroll work on the receiver, trigger guard and hammer.

Here is a pic

Any info would be helpful.
Thanks!

That is one of many thousands of inexpensive pocket pistols made in Belgium (the mark is from the Liege proof house) in the early 19th century. The engraving was usually an option at a few cents more.

FWIW, it appears to be original, that is from the percussion period, rather than a modern reproduction, but a closer examination would be needed to be sure.

Value on those is not very high; in good working condition they only bring around $150-200. If yours is all there, and everything works, it is uncommon, as most have cracked stocks, missing parts, and rusted and badly worn metal.

As with all muzzle loaders, check to make sure it is not loaded. As to firing it, I don't recommend it, but if you do, stick to a moderate load of black powder.

thanks for th reply. The pistol is in pretty good shape although it did have some rust on it which I have given a pretty good going over and has a slight crack in the handle but all in all, I think a pretty good buy at $40 and will make a nice collectors piece.
Thanks again.

Here's another one: brass barrel, frame, wood grip, no cracks, no corrosion. Obviously has been shot but in good shape.
