What exactly do the Series 80 parts look like?

Are they the two small, flat pieces of metal that rest on the right side of the frame and are an absolute, unholy hell of a time to put back in??

Could someone please post a pic of them and how they are supposed to be oriented in the gun so that I can make sure I did it right?

Thanks

:/ Hummm this PC doesnt have that under my favorites. I'll check on my home PC tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to give you a hand. Check the 1911forum. IIRC there should be a picture there. I havent been there in a long long time.

I think this is what you're needing to see:

It's been so long since I got them I can't remember. I've had them on my computer for a long time so when this topic comes up, these pics can be helpful.

Prezzz:

Thanks!

That is exactly what I needed!

I guess if I hadn't installed them correctly, my gun wouldn't have worked  but it is still nice to get confirmation.

You the same guy from GT?

Thanks!

My uncle who built .45's before he passed away and said to pull that piece of krap out. Mine is still in my series 80 Gold Cup but the two para ord's he built for me don't have them.

molonlabe,

If you do pull it out, which some do, you should put a shim of some sort in it's place or the hammer and sear will have a sloppy fit.

Thanks prezzz.

So it is only the frame that has been altered, not the sear and disconnector?

I ask because I may want to replace the MIM sear and disconnector with higher quality parts; can I just purchase a standard sear and disconnector?

Thanks!

Thanks again.

In your opinion, could a higher quality sear and disconnector give me a better trigger feel?

I'm considering replacing my stock parts both to get a slightly better pull, but mostly because they are MIM.

I had an MIM slide stop break on my Beretta. I don't quite care for that garbage too much.

A better trigger will be the result of a few things but to answer your question, not necessarily. The new parts could actually make the trigger worse if they are simply just dropped in with no fitting or mating.

A good feeling trigger is the result of all the mating trigger parts being properly fitted, correct spring tentions, correct angles, deburred and smoothed out. But, chances are that higher quality parts such as Wilson or Ed Brown will give you a great head start.

Simply smoothing out the all trigger surfaces, slightly adjusting the leaf springs, and putting good quality lubrication in the right places can do wonders for the trigger feel and is simple to do for most people with average mechanical skills.

The more involved trigger jobs will reduce the trigger creep which is probably the single largest complaint in what people call a "bad feeling trigger".
