1) near pillow (if sleeping) or in pocket or belted holster, either Kahr K9 or SW 642 or both.

2) only slightly farther away (i'm talking inches here) ... oh, see user name.

I have one gun out and loaded in my bedroom night stand and I often carry it. It's a Taurus M85UL. That's my home defense, grap and put on at the spur of the moment, all around outdoor and what not gun. All my other stuff, 18 long guns and 17 other hand guns are locked away. I do keep one NAA mini revolver with holster grip in a front pocket of my jeans. That one is there even if I'm "unarmed". It's like carrying a good pocket knife, a tool you might need sometime. But, the .38 is my general purpose home defense/carry gun. I like a revolver for night stand duty. It can remain loaded for years (mine gets shot, though) in a night stand and will still go bang flawlessly. No springs to set, less worry.

In the bedroom at night are a Mossberg 500 12 gauge (18" barrel, five rounds 00 buck in the magazine and four slugs in a side saddle) and whichever one of several handguns I was carrying that day. Also have a Surefire flashlight handy. (Still need to move a set of Tac-7s to the bedroom.)

Sig 226 on my side of bed. Kahr P9 on wife's side.
PM9 in my office.
686 snubbie in my workshop.
625 in back basement.

Looking for ways to keep at least one in each room.

Whatever it is ....

Whatever it is....keep it locked up!!

Don't endanger any child (residing in the home or just visiting).
Don't arm a BG.

I keep a .357 loaded with hollow points under my night stand.....IN A GUN VAULT!!!

It's a great little safe....opens with touch pad combination....touch pad is shaped like the reverse image of a human hand.

Even in pitch black....roll out of bed, put my hand on the pad...tap, tap, tap..the door springs open and I'm armed.

Best $100 I ever spent!!!

I have a Glock 17 and 19 in the bedroom and a Glock 22 in my office all in quick access gun vaults.

I would like to have my Mossberg 12ga out but I have yet to find a way to secure it, be able to get to it quickly, and keep the rugrats' hands off of it. Right now trouble would have to make an appointment for me to use my shotgun.

Wow, it is always interesting when someone dredges up one of these old threads that run several pages. You start reading and here is a post from someone who doesn't post here anymore because they moved to another board, and there is one from someone who was banned for one reason or another, and that is one from a member who has passed away...Very odd feeling sometimes, almost feels like a reunion.

Anyway, in answer to the question (I'm surprised I never posted on it originally), I have one "always loaded" gun, and a few that alternate:

My always gun is my Taurus 85CH. It is often either in my pocket or in a IWB holster when at home, and is always nearby when I sleep.

One gun that is almost an "always" gun (it is usually, but not always, loaded up) is my Taurus PT140 Milennium Pro. It is occasionally in my pocket, often in an IWB tucked holster and usually spends the night loaded near my bed.

I also always have a larger gun loaded up. Usually it is a revolver (my S&W 65LS or my 6" S&W 586 most often, occasionally my P&R S&W 19, most rarely, but occasionally it is my .41mag S&W 57) but sometimes it is my CZ 75B or Charles Daly 1911. Occasionally, especially when there is something going on in the neighborhood, I'll have both a larger revolver and one of the service pistols loaded up.

In long guns it is usually my Benelli Nova 12ga with 18.5" smoothbore barrel and ghost ring sights. Often I have my Winchester 94 in .45LC loaded as well, but not as often because the .45LC sometimes has feed issues (not often, but just often enough that I don't rely on it for defense very often- I need a .357mag or .44mag lever rifle since .45LC with the small rim has a reputation for this in a rifle). I don't keep it loaded but I do have 100 rounds loaded in clips for my SKS in case of an extreme need (such as multiple home invaders).

If I ever get used to my S&W 442 it may become another "always" gun as it is light enough to always reside in my pocket while in the house (I don't live in a CCW state) but if so, it will be in addition to the Taurus 85 not a replacement.

Anyway, the order I bring them into play is:
-While awake the go to gun is the one on my person (either the Taurus 85CH or Taurus PT140 M. Pro). Depending upon where I am in the house and my needs I will get to the larger handgun or the long gun as fast as possible (preferably I'll have both).
-While asleep the smaller guns are loaded and near, but usually the larger handgun is the go to gun (unless it is the rare occasion I don't have one loaded) if I know there is a situation. If just checking out a "bump in the night" that I don't know what it is I'll take one of the smaller guns to be discrete in case it is nothing. If there is something going on the handgun is just to get to the long gun.

Depends on the room. Mossberg 500 12ga. with 00 Mag load, Win. 1300 12 ga. with same load, Ruger P944 40 cal., Taurus .357 8 shot revolver, Beretta CX4 9mm, MAC-11 9mm, Walther P22 with Stinger load.
In the truck is a Taurus .357 5 shot snub and on the motorcycle is a Taurus PT-140 40 cal. I also normally carry a Kel-Tec .380 concealed. And if all else fails, I always have the trusty K-bar to rely on

Glock 20 with 15+1 Double Tap 180 gr Gold Dot
Springfield Armory Mil Spec .45 ACP with 8 rounds of 230 gr Gold Dot
Romanian AK clone with 30 rounds of 122 gr Wolf FMJ for perimeter defense and really icky situations

I have an 870 but it is the 26 inch barrel plus turkey choke flavor that would be hard to get through the doorway. Also have immediate and unrestricted access to two SKSs, another Romanian AK, a 7 Mag, and a Ruger 10/22.

That's the basement. Upstairs the parental units sleep soundly within arm's reach of a Ruger P90 .45 loaded with Gold Dots and a Desert Eagle .44 Mag loaded for bear.

I don't like to think of it as paranoid so much as prepared...

If I can come up with a muzzle brake/flash hider that will tame the ear splitting blast from my Kel Tec PLR-16 it will become my primary house and car gun.

But for right now I've got guns all over the house.:)

Call me 'brainwashed' all ya want...

I keep MaryJane(Bushy M16A2 clone) in my wall locker Condition 1(still the only weapon I can operate BEFORE I wake up, lol) and Gladys(Kimber TLE/RL) Condition 3 inside the slightly open nightstand drawwer, where I can see those tritium sights. Even MJ just carries ball, I feel good about muzzlethumping and buttstroking, it vents that hostility way better than just shooting him, lol...

1st line of defense- Freddy my australian cattle dog/ german shepherd mix. He scares the snot out of anyone who comes to the door/window and wakes me in time to grab my second line of defense.

2nd line of defense- G-17 or P226 .40 each loaded with Hydra shocks

I'm a heavy sleeper so I need the furry early warning system to wake me. If they are dumb enough to tangle with Freddy and still stick around then he shouldn't be surprised at what he gets from there. I have a little girl in the house and I refuse to let her be a victim.

Cheers, Tony.
