What have you done in the reloading room today

I sorted two gallon-sized zip bags of 223/556 range pickup. I decapped the keepers, and I'll continue brass processing at a later date.

I don't own a semi-auto 223/556, consequently I don't chew through 223 as some folks do. I don't need 2 or 3k pieces of brass; a few hundred is plenty.

I sort out and save only a few headstamps - R-P, Frontier, F-C for my use, and LC because many people prefer it for whatever reason. Everything thing else goes in the "if you want it take it" bucket.

I bag the LC without year-sorting it and trade it off. 223 is almost useless as trade material, but sorted has some value.
And the scrap bucket is worth about $2.25/lb.

This afternoon I loaded up 50 rounds of my .45 auto target load (200gr SWC over 4.0 gr Clays).

I also warmed up the casting pot and cast about 500 125 grain SWC that I use for .357 mag and .38 special. The mold is Accurate #36-125K. This mold is definitely one of my favorites--I only had 3 rejects out of the entire bunch! Not too bad.

That load of 4.0 gr Clays/200gr SWC is a favorite of mine as well. Excellent load.

Just received my last 308/M1A reloading aid. A broken case extractor. Read stories about separated heads on M1A cases and am being careful with fired brass inspection and this 308 case exactor just in case. You don't get much from Brownells for $51.46.

I won 2 of them at an M14/Garand clinic.
One for 308 and the other for 30-06.
I’ve been fortunate never having to use them.

When I bought my Springfield M1A National Match I bought 1,000 pieces of once fired Lake City all from a single lot. I spent a week sizing, trimming, swageing, uniforming and deburring the primer pockets.

Fortunately my chamber is cut to minimum spec and my brass doesn’t stretch much.

I rebarreled my M1 Garand myself.
I bought a short chambered Kreiger barrel and cut the final few thousand myself with a PT&G pull through reamer.

I’m assuming you know how to check brass with a paper clip to try and catch incipient case head separation before it occurs?

I do the paper clip method but instead of a paper clip I use a dental pick. I use Lake City brass and so far so good but not that many firings yet. Maybe 4-5 times each at most. Do you small base resize?

Emptied the tumbler. Put 100 small primer .45acp in to tumble briefly. I don’t remember where I got these, but they were wet tumbled and are squeaky clean. I ran them an hour just to get some NuFinish on them so they would load more easily.

Unloaded my range bag.
Disassembled my BHP to check the sear— it doubled 3-4 times at the range today. Quite a surprise!

I think the sear (original, 1970s) is done. I ordered a new EGW hardened sear and a new sear spring. That should make it right again.

Got my 9mm RMR 124 MWs in, packaging was fine. Bullets mic’ .3551” and seem to be very round.
Lubed the BL 550, made a couple dummy rounds to test plunkability in my PCC, reduced the crimp a bit (back to zero measurable crimp)
Loaded 9mm Luger with GFL brass, Tula primers (not my favorite, but I need to use them up), 4.0 W231 for head to head accuracy testing.
RMR MWs @ 1.050”
Win 130 JFP-FPs @ 1.100” (obsolete bullet)
Xtreme 124 PFPs @ 1.065” (most accurate practice bullets so far)
Hopefully the Match Winners will replace my Winchester 130 38 Super bullets as a ‘hard head’ load and the Xtreme 124s as a practice load. Dual duty.
When I was plunking rounds check OAL, the Xtreme 124s would plunk, but not twist, so I think they are just touching the lands, probably why they are so accurate.
Made sure the MWs had at least .010” clearance from the lands.
The Ruger PCC has a short throat.

I pulled the stuff out to whip up a 9mm test ladder…. 115 gr Hornady hap, power pistol, cci spp, and fiocchi brass… then the phone rang, and a couple of other things happened, (like my daughter spilled the entire bottle of shampoo all over the bathroom floor…) So, I ended up grabbing 150 rounds of factory stuff instead.… the good news is, my pound of power pistol is sitting there, ready to go :)
ETA: my bathroom floor is also sparkling! 🤣🤣

My wife is in the hospital for critical/unexpected surgery so this weekend plans are in hold. I was also planning to sell my last .35Whelen rifle, along with all the Whelen-specific reloading supplies but that’s not going to happen either. It will wait.
Sorry to hear that. I hope she makes a quick speedy recovery. My prayers are with you.

Keep us updated…… as much as you want to…

I pulled out my LC 12 brass and took some measurements with my hornady comparator.
My brass streches 0.005" in my M1A National Match.
My sized brass is 1.6185 base to datum line.
My fired brass is 1.6235 base to datum line
