What is It?

Hello about a month ago I bought a S&W 586 4 inch 357. This revolver has a "black shiny matte finish" my question is this is it stainless or carbon steel? I know S&W made a "blacken stainless" a few years back. I want to know if this is one of them. I also noticed that it has a chrome lined barrel. I tried to find the info at the S&W's website but to no avail. I will email them if no one on this forum can help me.

586 is blued steel - even if a more recent one which does not have the old classic blue.

686 is the stainless version and is self color as it comes.

Shiny and matte are two opposites. The bore is just the metal left in the white. There is no need to chrome line a handgun barrel.

I think it was the 686 that had a limited run of blackened stainless......tom
