I came across a 9mm cartridge of unknown origin. The case is marked Winchester and is apparently steel. The bullet is black and appears similar to a Hornady XTP, i.e. hollow point with grooves from the tip rearward. It appears to be a factory load.

Is this familiar to anyone?

Black Talon comes to mind. Not sure about a steel case though. Time to get out the refrigerator magnet.

The case is not steel.
Try to stick a magnet to it if you are not convinced.

It is a nickel plated brass case.

Sounds like old Black Talon.

Too lazy to go get a picture upstairs. I've got some of the real deal stuff. I'll get one or two up tomorrow.

Those are Black Talon, and it's definitely nickel plated brass. I have some of that in my inventory from back in the early-sh 90's.

During the Clinton era, people were buying up as much of that BT ammo as they could get their hands on, and then flipping it for a tidy profit. It was deemed to be some magical bullet that could defeat any and all vests, as was implied by the liberals.
