I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of finish everyone likes the most on their revolvers.

Classic blue with wood stocks, although I have stainless as well. There's a 4" nickle M29 at the LGS I've been wanting....

I love stainless revolvers. I enjoy hand polishing them as well. That's all I own at the moment.

The deep blueing of old Colts and old Smiths make me all warm and fuzzy too though.

Stainless for me, but I am particular about the finish of the stainless. I have bead blast, satin S&W, and "polished" Ruger. Not a big fan of bead blast, since the others look of higher quality and value to me.

I chose other the reason why is because I like any finish that Craig c pulls out to show :D

Finishes like this, bone charcoal color case hardening and carbona blue. I've got my first full carbona blue sixgun in the works right now. It's a very durable blued finish with a soft luster and slight blue hue.

I also like a nicely polished hot blue.

The brushed finish bluing on late model Rugers leaves much to be desired.

I despise the brushed finish on most stainless guns, with obvious swirls. It looks better if it's all polished in one direction like a Freedom Arms Premier model. I like either a bright polish or a full bead blast. I had this Bisley Vaquero re-polished when the other work was done.

I like nickel but only have a couple of them.

Not all blued finishes are gorgeous, and the same is true for stainless. Ruger's bluing has always been mediocre plus, but its stainless is fairly nice. S&W, on the other hand, usually had decent bluing, but its stainless guns have looked as though they were finished by a bunch of orangutangs with sandpaper! I've hand polished all mine with some great results.

Blued guns rust very quickly in morning mists and rain, while stainless resist much better. Stainless also resists gas cutting and pressure better than carbon steel. Hard chrome plating, combined with stainless steel, is pretty much the ultimate as far as I'm concerned. I only wish that hard chrome could be made into a shiny deep blued color.

Sorry to see some have a bad experience, but the guns can't all be that way, since I find no flaws in the four I have acquired this year, all but one NIB.

I wonder if someone wiped them with a gritty cloth at some point after shipment from S&W.

Most stainless guns look like they've been sanded in every direction by an angry orangutan. Most folks apparently don't know what to look for in a proper finish.

I enjoy hand polishing my stainless smiths as well. With some dedication they can turn out pretty nice.

I like them all but love stainless. I am one of those OCD guys who cleans them to a shine the minute I get home from the range. Stainless is easy with a brass brush... Blued looks great but isn't so forgiving.

I love the way nice bluing looks, but for a gun I'm going to use a lot I'll take stainless. A nice brushed stainless where care has been taken to give a nice uniform finish comes in a strong 2nd to a nice blued finish for looks, but easily exceeds bluing when durability is factored in.

I love the look of a highly polished blued finish but prefer to carry a highly polished stainless steel revolver.

I ordered a S&W 625 JM last year and apperently didn't read the description. It had a bead blasted stainless finish and I much prefer the Satin Stainless that S&W uses. After years of abuse a little Mother's Mag can make it look new again. Can't do much with the Bead Blasted and the turn line is shiny along with all of the parts that reguarly rub the leather holster. Colt's high gloss blue is beautiful, but for me stainless is just easier to maintain. I have a friend that has some sort of acidic hands though because he can rust a stainless revolver in a week. I'm not a big Taurus fan, but I have always thought the blued finish on the raging Bull guns was done very nicely.

Right now I have four blue and two stainless. They looked better before the last storm put water in my safe. :banghead::cuss::fire: don't ask
