What Lubricants Do You Use?

Russack Dri-Slide

I like Rem-Oil with Teflon and others with Teflon....

However, I love a product called Russack Dri-Slide on my firearms. Also use it on everyday carry gun and a must in the outdoors during hunting season.

They have a few varieties and it can be a little pricey, but performance is outstanding. It Dries and does not attract dirt, and a little goes a long way.

I use the spray can ep liquid and the weapons lube! (I use it as well on machinery etc.)

It has a black color and can be a tad messy out of spray can, but it is a great product. I apply with a Q tip to avoid the mess. The weapons lube has the convenient needle applicator.

dipstick motor oil

Dirty 10W40 oil from my vehicle's dipstick, once, in a pinch at the range. Didn't have my range bucket that day. Used oil was much better than the bone dry rifle that I had foolishly put away before lubing.

For bolt lugs: Gunslick grease, sometimes mountain bike bottom-bracket grease.
For the rest: synthetic motor oil or gun oils by Hoppes or Rem.

CLP

Why you would discount the many years of military testing and use is strange.
People and their weapons is highly emotional and illogical.

I have purchased and tried a few different gun lube products but recently picked up a quart of Dexron ATF. I use it on everything: revlolvers, semi-autos, and my AR's. It works great and for $6 a quart will last a looooong time. I also use a Rig Rag to wipe down exposed metal surfaces.

Gibb's Brand Gun Oil is as good as it gets. Keeps all my guns like new where it's used and is a rust deterrent as well.

I am really liking a home brew of half Mobil 1 synthetic (I used 5w30 and am going to try other weights) and Marvel's Mystery oil. Very slippery stuff, doesn't evaporate like the solvent based stuff. Kinda messy. No smell.

I also use what's left of my tiny lead tube of black gunslick grease. I will be sad when that runs out but I will switch to tetra or just some regular wheel bearing grease, applied sparingly to slide rails and whatnot.

I don't have any personal experience with Frog Lube. However, all of my friends that use it give it high praise and reviews.

Someone on another site said the the machinist's rule-of-thumb is:

-If it slides, grease it
-If it revolves, oil it.

I use Breakfree for almost everything except my M1A bolt, and it gets Lubriplate. If the sliding parts have a loose fit, like my Hollywood Universals, they get motor oil. Grease tends to get gummy and messy.

Excellent point

-If it slides, grease it
-If it revolves, oil it.
If it spins really fast with close tolerances, I try to use Lathe Spindle Oil. It is a 5 WT oil designed to take heat and friction. It used to be referred to as sewing machine oil. I buy it by the gallon from Mobil for about $15.00.

We use Slip 2000 the Extreme Weapons Lube. When we got our LWRC REPR last year they sent us a sample and we loved it. Before that Militec and we still use CLP but only as a cleaner really and in our range bag if we are at a competition and need to relube fast.

I use this stuff called Kroil. It's an industrial lubricant. It can be found through commercial supply houses, to my knowledge it isn't sold in ordinary retail outlets. Ask any tradesman that uses aresol lubricants and he can probably tell you where to get it. I have used it on exhaust bolts on auto mobiles and they practically spin themselves out, great penetrating oil, much better than even Liquid Wrench. I use it on my guns as well and it has worked well for me. Plus it smells great!
I'll meet you halfway on this one. Kroil is a superb penetrating oil, simply amazing at loosening rusted fasteners.

IMO though it's awfully thin for general lubrication, exactly the opposite of what the OP is asking for.

I'd go with Shooter's Choice grease or Brownell's Action Magic. AM is a two part dry lube that gets applied and stays applied.

Where do you find ballistol, I have asked every gun show or gun stor for the last year, no one ever has the stuff.

Whatever happens to be handy. CLP mostly, but I've used, WD-40, sewing machine oil, silicone spray, 3-1 oil, motor oil, "fishing reel oil"...you name it. Shoot, in a pinch I've used "Fish formular" on a fishing reel. No reason to think it wouldn't work just as well on a gun in a jam.

Mobil 1 in an old oil can. A little rig where nesessary. have not spent money for Gun oil for many years. never wore out A gun due to improper lubrication.

I use Mobile 1 motor oil on everything. It seems to coat the metal well and I don't have to use much to make the weapons function slick. I wouldn't use grease on anything unless you enjoy black gritty sludge on everything. It makes you gun feel smooth to start with but it traps all kinds of dust, grit, and carbon that would otherwise migrate out of the weapon. I know a LOT of people like using grease on their weapons but when you clean your gun, see how much black sludge you clean out of it compared to not using it. My M&P 9C has seen nothing but Mobile 1 for years. Its fired around 10,000 rounds and there is almost no wear anywhere on it.
