Almost never carry one, but when I do I alternate between the smallest and largest. Around the yard I'll sometimes carry my 5.5" Vaquero .45 Colt in my overalls. If out and about, I'll only ocassionally take my Detective Special.
"That cut down 1917 rov. is a nice looking gun! That has to be the best looking job I have seen, Who did the work? " .................................................................. Krupparms, that was done by Kent Singletary, Glendale, AZ. The finish is just a matte bluing, and the grips were rather plain Ahrends cocobolo. I smoothed the grips edges up a bit, and then used a wood chisel to give them a kind of "bark" texture. Didn't turn out quite like I wanted to in looks, but it is perfectly functional, giving the grips some "grab". I picked up the gun already shortened with the sight mounted, and it hit centered, but was WAY too low (about 16" @ 25 yards), and that is why the sight got "flattened", to bring point of impact up to 25 yards. Kent could easily have done the sight & barrel work, as he has done a few other S&W's for me with such. Here are a pair of S&W Hand Ejector's in .45 Colt that were modeled after the "Indiana Jones" gun.
I should report this thread to the moderators for intentional infliction of emotional harm to residents of New Jersey and other states that have yet to ratify the Second Amendment.
But if you know where freezes over and shall issue comes to the Garden State, I am ready:
Most of the time I carry a large semi-auto .45acp, but I do indeed carry my 4" S&W 629 .44 when circumstances see fit. I carry it in an old Safariland shoulder holster, and I carry it on the same side as my dominant hand, I'm a righty, so I carry it where a lefty would have it for cross-draw. I have practiced with snap caps and live fire and this is the safest and quickest draw for me. The holster allows me to pull the gun straight out and away (instead of up and out) I twist the gun as I bring the sights up to the target, resulting in the muzzle going in a straight line from the holster to the ground in front of me and on to the target. Also is quicker than cross-draw, I practiced the heck out of both. What works for me may not work for others, but this works great for me
Most days it's a .38 LCR in a pancake holster. So light, I forget its there. I seriously have to think which hip I am wearing it on
For sentimental reasons, I may pack my father in law's old Model 36. Nice ol' shooter, and built to last several lifetimes.
I think my next handgun purchase is going to be another revolver of some sort. I think I need a heavy .357 smaller than my 6.5" Blackhawk (that's a chunky gun). I've got my eye on a 3" SP101. Heavy but yet easily carried.
I find this placement to be the quickest arrangement for reloading. 1, 2, and 2 in the cylinder. I'm a lefty so I think I may hold the gun in a weird position when I reload.
I carry 1911s on and off duty but carry a revolver as a back up and in situations where something bigger won't fit or a "get off me" gun is the most appropriate choice. I have a number of revolvers but the two that I use for that sort of work are a Pinnacle custom 9mm S&W 360J in and a Mag-na-port custom Charter Arms Bulldog Backpacker .44spl.
Here in IL where we are so obviously safe and protected by the police/Chicago bureaucrats, I cannot carry except at work in the shop or on my farm or at home. So, in order: at the shop it is either a 49 Smith, a Diamondback, or a SP101. On the farm, I go a little bigger and take either a 2 3/4 or 4" Security Six or a Charter 44 or, if I'm feeling sturdy (just had spinal fusion of L2-L5) my 624.
At home I have several 357s strategically stashed around where childbride and I can easily get to them.
