Today was .50 Cal Muzzleloader. But can also be at times:
-9/32nds" cal carbon arrow
-.243 Win
-.45-70 Gov't
-6.5x55 Swedish
-.25-'06 Rem
-.45 Cal Muzzleloader
-.44 Magnum
Yup, I think those are the only calibers ever hunted deer with. I plan to try a few others, like 12 ga buckshot, 12 ga slug, .45 Colt, .223 Rem, and possibly 270 Win.
.243 Win and 6.5x55 will be handling the bulk of the work during rifle season for the foreseeable future, however.
I did have this crazy thought cross my mind today while hunting and lugging a heavy rifle through the woods - that is, just to scrap everything during rifle season and run with a scoped T/C Encore in 6mm PPC, 10" or 12" bbl - will take deer, coyotes, varmints, and would be a dream to lug around, highly accurate, very maneuverable to get off a shot, and almost no recoil. When sitting, I would use a collapsible bipod to steady it. It would be perfect for deep woods hunting like I was doing today, and lugging up into tree stands. It would be a bit loud, though - we'll see.
