What the hell just happened with my Lee Drum?!

There is only one hole in the drum and it does not pass thru and will only line up with one hole in the body at a time. So I have no imagination of how you did this.

You could always try to replicate your spill, an experiment if you will. Just don't put in as much powder and have a pan underneath to catch the powder in case you can duplicate it. This might give you the answer as to how it happened.

Put oatmeal or Cream Of Wheat in the hopper for your trial. That way if it runs all over the place at least the mice can get what you missed.

Taking a look this morning everything seems fine.

Screw / drum insert threads good, wipe looks good, drum insert doesn't pull away when actuated.

What about this: Is it possible I removed the drum insert before I started and reinserted it 180 deg off? I just noticed it was possible to do that. Although it's harder to tighten and the drum insert gets a little stuck, and it was when I removed it after what happened last night.

I haven't put powder in it again. Maybe later.
If you look at the drum on the opposite side of the metering chamber it is hollowed out. If the drum is installed the wrong way the hollow will register with the hopper and it will surely empty. I think the splines on the drum are different sizes to prevent putting in backwards that may be why your drum got a "little stuck" when installed backwards.

That's what I think happened.

I thought that's what the splines were there for, too, so I never worried about inserting it incorrectly.

Whelp, those little plastic splines were no match for my carelessness! 😄

I threw mine out for the same reason. I went back to the lee dippers.. no spillage with them..lol

The dippers are great if you want to throw the load for trhat dipper but what about a load between the dippers.
Alter the dippers.

Can add epoxy or what I do is file it down from the top. It's very soft plastic.

I've bought extra dippers as singles & bought another complete set. They are very inexpensive.

Then I mark the dipper "700x 3.4 gr" or whatever.

I mark them for a heaping scoop. For as much as I can pile on consistently. If some dips are a little under it's no big deal.

The other day I dipped 150 rds of .38 spl in an hour on the press. I was surprised, too. Yes, I was trying to see how many I could do in an hour.

Next time I'm using the Drum and .38 Spl I'll see how many I can do in an hour, including Drum set up / take down.
