What to add to Tumbler Media?

I just checked DrillSpot and it would be $54.86 to get a 40lb bag here!$22+ for the media and $32+ for shipping. Glad i got a bag earlier.

Guys, I don't now how to break this to ya,:p but media lasts so doggone long that unless you're reloading commercially, why not let loose of
$5.00 and just buy regular media re-charging fluid at the gun store??

It works extremely well, and lasts darn near forever. :)

I am definitely a lightweight far as volume of Cases to be cleaned and re-loaded.

Maybe twenty five hunded old tarnished Cases that sat around since the mid 1980s.

All other empty Cases are NOS and unfired, or, once fired and still very bright and shiney.

After those old ones are clean, it will be just a light cleaning for any re-loads getting shot and re-loaded again.

I have ten Pounds of the Walnut, and really five Pounds probably would have been more than plenty.

I will get some Corn Cob also, and five pounds should be more than enough also.

This way, with the two, I should be good till ohhhh, I dunno, good for a looooong time anyway.

I will guess then that any fine Abrasive, Rouge, Bon Ami, Tripoli, fine rubbing compound, or fine Iron Oxide, should work well for the 'tooth' one may want for the Media to polish better or faster...and, a Liquid Wax would aid in allowing the fine abrasive to adhere to the Media crumbs...as well as imparting a very light Wax to the Cartridge Cases.

Ashes would probably work well also for 'tooth'...but, of course, one does not really want too much dust, so...

I had never thought about any of this before, so this has been fun, and I am so glad I am getting those old Cases clean now, and set aside pending their being re-loaded.:)

Im always surprised how a little hot water and detergent beforehand will cut down the tumbling time by about 3X

I use New Finish that has been deluted just a little with mineral spirits. That combination works great. I have been told that Dillon's polish is Blue Coral liquid auto polish. Some people use Turtle Wax with good results. I have also used Meguiar's Mirror Glaze No 9 professional swril remover 2.0 and it worked great...but some of car wax products work just as good and are cheaper. I prefer to use New Finish deluted just a little with mineral spirits in corn cob media.

Just checked that price thru DrillSpot, Holy Mackrel, I guess they think they got a way to make BIG bucks. Well it back to Graingers and do your own P/U, call ahead and make sure they have it in stock or get it ordered, then pick it up in a couple of days.

Believe it or not, badly tarnished cases can be pre-cleaned pretty good by a soaking in plain old KoolAid, with no sugar in it. Ain't perfect of course, but it'll eat most of the crud off. Citric acid, I think it is.

Hmmmm...I wonder how well Coca Cola would work for pre-soaking oxidised or cruddy Cases?

I have not got to those seriously oxidised or light verdigris ones yet.
