What to do with an ugly Glock 17 frame? Or two?

In the past couple of years of looking for bargains and project guns, i have ended up with two ugly Glock 17 frames.

One is a gen2 frame that is shortened to Glock 19 length - the frame was a LE trade and had such severe wear at the bottom that the jagged plastic edge would draw blood if you brushed against it. It is a stripped frame with no internal parts right now.

The other is a gen1 frame that has a "bubba" grip & stipple job by the prior owner. The back strap was filled with white epoxy then ground so far that the white shows (until I painted it), and it is stippled all over, and I do mean all over. This frame does have all it's internal parts, so any gen1, gen2, or gen3 slide assembly makes it a complete gun. But to quote an old friend, it is uglier than a dog's butt sewed up with a grape vine.

Therefore, neither have any "collector:" value - (hehehe; sorry, i can't say that with a straight face about a plastic pistol)

My dilemma is what to do with them. I could:

1) take them to local LE and do the process needed to destroy them and have their serial numbers so recorded.

2) shop around for inexpensive slide assemblies and a lower/grip parts kit, and eventually rebuild them. I don't really want two compromised Glock 17's though. And i surely don't need them. even for truck/boat/workshop guns.

3) try to sell them, although - in the current buyer's market - i can't imagine anyone wanting such things.

4) just put them in the in the back of the safe.

So, I am asking for other, constructive ideas and suggestions. Is there any way to fix a bad stipple job and a bad grip reduction job? I've looked at magwell extensions a little bit; are there any that would restore the shortened grip to G17 length? Other ideas?

Sell them, cheap, to someone playing with aftermarket parts or carbine kits. They'll surely bring enough to be worth your trip to your FFL.

I would go with Option #3: sell them if you can. Can't see fixing them up as being a worthwhile or profitable venture. Try and get something for them and move on to your next "bargain".

They aren't worth anything. I would just hang onto them for spares. You never know what you may come across one day, or someone you know may want a project, or need to replace a damaged frame.

#1 and strip it of everything but the plastic.
But first get a frame kit (Midway has them on sale now for $49) and build yourself a new G17 using the old frame as a test frame.

Thanks for your responses. I just wanted to see if there was something I was overlooking.

And I hadn't considered a Carbine Conversion upper - although the Mech Tech ones don't fit Gen1 or Gen2. I'll research that option.

You can attach a slide and send the complete pistol to Glock and get the frame replaced for about $100 + sales tax and shipping. I sent them my old duty Glock 22 that had a worn out grip reduction along with 3 mags. They replaced the frame and all of the slide components and exchanged my old mags for the new magazines. The new frame will have a different serial number than what's on your slide if that matters to you.

Total for me was $128.00.

Here is another option. I have 2 extra Polymer80 frames. Use a drill press to finish them. Transfer the parts and have a virtually new Glock. $75 each shipped

Sounds like a good deal to me.
