I am looking for a good .22lr pistol here are my requirements

at least a 6" barrel
blued
under 500.00
reliable

I was looking at ruger and smith-wesson but am open to others. I would be using it for plinking and coon hunting so id like sights that do well in the dark.
I like rugers line up and have used them in the past but there a bit on the pricey side of my buget. I liked the look of the Smith-Wesson 22A but I have no experience with them so I have know idea if there anygood. What are some suggestions.

Cant beat Rugers or the lower end Smiths (unless your spending thousands on a custom Smith)

You might take a look at a S&W 422. Semi-auto discontinued a few years ago but inexpensive, reliable and decent in the accuracy dept.

Ruger makes several of their .22 models with a fiber optic front sight, which should be helpful in your coon hunting if you have at least moonlight. Or you could add one.

Ive got a mark II Ruger, bull barrel with compensator, its a nice gun. Ive also got a Taurus 94 with a 5" barrel ...... Da is heavy, but the single action is crisp. It was about $100 less than my Ruger.

Colt woodsman... Fun gun to shoot... older though

I would say go with the Ruger. Target barrel on those makes that a nice looking gun. Saw one used 4" target barrel, blued in my local shop for $270.

What Ruger did you look at that was in the 500.00 range?
The mark III hunter but its stailess and I'd strongly prefer blued.

The bull barrel one was only 405 and it was blued but it didn't have high vis sight. I guess those could be added later if i did get it.

I was curious as to which shoots better the ruger or smith-wesson 22A the max range i would be using it on would be 25 yards. I like to be able to keep my groups inside a 50 cent piece at the most with out scopes of course.

Put your money in the bank. We're in a recession, well at least some of us are. I guess guns are a pretty good investment though. I should more some of my stocks into Ruger, Springfield, S&W and Colt.

FN Medaillist (if you have those in your region)
Browning buckmark

I would buy one of those if I was in the market for a target pistol
