What type of Scope Rings for a Ruger American in .30-06?

I was supposed to pick up the rifle last night, but after a full day of tree trimming a clean up, I just didn't have it in me to drive the 15 miles to pick it up.

I'm extremely excited though! This is my first Centerfire rifle that I will be adding to my collection. I also just picked up my reloading turret and I will start buying components for it. Now I'll also be able to load for all my handgun calibers as well!

So, what type of rings to buy? As said it's a Ruger American in .30-06. I'll be using it to help further my semi newfound hobby of attempting to understand ballistics, plinking, developing different loads for different scenarios and hunting.

I see myself having this rifle for a very long time, so I'm not opposed to spending the necessary amount for good rings.

I just hope someone comes out with a new stock for it.

I put Weaver Grand Slam rings on mine.

Burris Signature Zee rings imo. Out of the rings I've used they are the best I've used under $100. Plus, they eliminate the need for lapping, if you have any alignment issues they can fix that, and they won't leave ring marks.

You can spend as much as you want, but most any Weaver or Weaver style ring will work just fine. Especially since it already has bases for that style ring. Spending more might get something nicer looking, but no better. No point is spending $50-$75 for rings on a $350 rifle.

Any of these would work just fine. I probably wouldn't use them on my nicer guns, but on a RAR, certainly

The Burris rings work fine too. But it is impossible to remove the scope from the rifle without taking the rings apart. The Weavers all allow you to remove, and replace the scope while still in the rings. While they do not advertise them so, they have always returned to zero for me when going back on the rifle.

Second the Weaver "top mounts". (#2 on the list in the prior post). Aside from being removable, they are low-profile, but wide with a large grasping area. It is why you often see them on safari rifles.

As for leaving ring-marks, this is caused more often with low-quality rings that are over or unevenly tightened. Get a FAT torque wrench to accurately gage tightening, and make small adjustments on both sets of rings until you get a uniform tightness. I like 20inch-pounds on rings, 30-35 on the base. That is a bit much for cheap bases, but my weavers take it fine, never any ring marks.

I've been using Burris Zee rings for about 30 or so years and absolutely love them. I once dropped my rem. 700 from a terribly high distance, it hit hard enough to bend the objective lens sun shade down on my Leupold. When I took it to the range the next day to re-zero it, it was barely knocked off zero by about an inch.

Last hunting season I had to use Leupold dove tail rings on a rifle, I got inpatient trying to find the Zee rings I always use. Every time I bumped the scope it would knock it out of zero and inch or so, I replaced them with the Zee rings in the middle of season and have not had to sight it in since, even after a rough second half of hunting season of riding in the truck, and getting bumped around hard.

I love the Burris Signature Zee rings also. I used Warne steel Maxima bases with mine.
