What would you do

Call me a cynic, but I'd bet the cops will tell you "they don't have the resources to pursue it" anyway. That's what they told me when a co-worker overheard me using my credit card on the phone, wrote the numbers down, and then tried to go on a spending spree.

Sunliner, et al;

What if the guy was really nice to you and liked by most of his employees? He always goes out of his way to help you and your students and may even throw a occassional student referral your way.

Now the exact same situation arises. Kid upset about his weekend plans being changed and nice guy bragging about shooting his Glock.

Are you going to drop a dime on him? Be really honest with yourself and you don't have to answer.

I am not sure I could hit a soda can once at 100 yards with a Glock, much less five times in a row. Do what feels right to you, you are the one who will have to be cool with what you do.

No I'd let him be. If he were a nice guy I would have let him be. Like I said before my first inclination that if he went to jail he paid his debt and should be able to own a firearm under the 2nd amendment. But he's not a nice guy. I guess the moral here is be nice if you want to be left alone.

Just call the police and say you'd like to report what you believe to be a felon in possession of a firearm.

You can do this anonymously; I've called on suspicious things before, and they usually give you the option to remain anonymous. Just give them the story as it's been presented to you, and let them take care of it as they will.

The guy will never know you called the police, and the police won't hunt you down if it's false. Better safe than sorry, and it takes it off your mind.

I think "minding your own business" is a bad idea, as is worrying about it incessantly. Make the call, give your story as you understand it, and let happen what will.

Good luck.

I would keep in mind that the part "...shall not be infringed..." and let it go. Becomming a rat is the lowest order and I would not become one for anyone or anything.

Camar you say that becoming a rat is of the lowest order. By that reasoning you would turn a blind eye towards a rapist or child molester. The world is not black and white Camar. This is a colorful world in which the lord has seen fit to provide us.

Wow is right. As stated 70+ years ago many people looked the other way and did nothing.

How many times have we recently read that people have felt a man has behaved strangely....., and later he goes to a restaurant, or a local political rally and opens fire?

The type of person you describe has the tendency to lie , he probably doesn't have a gun. He needs to impress others to make up for his lack of self-worth. The best thing to do is to try and give him some compliments. There is absolutely nothing more wretched on this planet than a man with little or no self-confidence , but it is a problem that can be easily remedied. There is few greater achievements than to give another man pride even if he doesn't deserve it and the reward is always great.
I actually feel sorry for the guy you describe , because I know what they hide under that attitude.
sometimes the obvious is not so obvious

I think you are asking the wrong people. You should be asking the local PD. Just lay it out for them and let them decide.
If they think its credible they will pursue it, if not they won’t. I think the best you can hope for is that they will take a report.
This is a good thing if there is an incident later on. If there is no incident later, you have not harmed him at all.

As far as the “anonymous tip”. If you believe you are doing the right thing, why would you feel the need to hide from it?
If you feel the need to hide from your actions maybe you need to rethink them.

Sunliner,

Thank you for a most honest reply. I think if most people are honest with themselves would give the same answer.

It is easy to see how our preceptions influence our decisions and actions. It should also be easy to see how easy a accusation which would prove to be false could destroy their job.

Boy! This is really a tough one. Based on your statement of the facts I think I'd be compelled to find out if he has a sheet. If he doesn't then you know that you have to be wary of everything the guy who told you this says. If he does have a sheet and has a pretty bad attitude to go with it I'd drop the dime on him. If you didn't and sometime in the future he was to whack someone you'd have a heavy load to carry.

If the guy's a convicted felon with a violent past and he's bragging about his Glock, he needs to be checked out by the cops. One thing this world doesn't need is more armed criminals. Or coworkers who enable them. :scrutiny:

Call it in and let it rest. In all likelihood they can not do anything at this time, BUT if something happens in the future your complaint being on file MIGHT save the life of the cop that has to knock on his door.

Guys like this make us all look bad.
