What's the cheapest, yet GOOD 9mm handgun around?

Both better than CZs which are highly over-rated.

I don't think CZs are "highly" over-rated but depending on what is being said, they can be a little over-rated. They are good guns for the money but they don't and can't compare to better guns that sell for more money like the SIGs and Berettas. If they were as good as the SIGs and Berettas, they would be selling for about the same price by now. They have been around long enough for people to know the name and know the rep but I doubt very many people would pay as much for a CZ-75B as a Beretta or a SIG. If given the choice, most people would pick a SIG, Beretta, H&K or Glock over a CZ.

I think CZs are somewhere between Ruger/S&W and SIGs/Beretta in terms of quality. Probably closer to Ruger/S&W than to the SIG/Beretta class.
Just my opinion and I am sure it is debatable.

I'd go for a used Glock 17 or 19. KY Imports has them for something around $350, and you'd get a better quality gun than most of what has been suggested. Glock 9mm's are the prettiest guns, but they pretty much never die.

My star bm at 158 and my xd-9 at 400, are my two favorite pistols and concidently my best buys at that. The star is extremyl accuracte and reliable but can only shoot standard pressure rounds, and the xd can shoot anything but doesnt shoot as tight a group. Either one is a great choice(for me at least :).)

My vote is for the Ruger P95D. Jeep Driver is right, you can shoot 'em forever.
Kel-Tec P-11 is worth a look, so far the Ruger appears to be the better of the two but the P-11 is way easier to conceal.

I have a Ruger P-95DC and I really like it. I do not have any experience with the other guns mentioned, but my Ruger has been 100% reliable. I can't see how any of the others could be any better than that!

Or, you can buy a more accurate, American made Smith & Wesson or Ruger for nearly the same price, and actually sell it to someone when you want to.
Maybe that is the case in your neck of the woods, but around here you can't GIVE away a S&W auto.

Oh, I'd give your neighbors more credit than that.

But CZ's jump off the shelves in TN, then?

CZ not over rated

The CZ is a fine weapon, not over rated. Worth more than it costs even with the newest price jacks.

Still, I say go for a higher quality used gun over any really cheap new one. Always, buy from someone you know who can give you a history with a used gun. I got burned buying a used gun at a gun show from a dealer.
Most of the time, all you might need is refinishing, springs, and maybe a new barrel which you have to attend to after a while anyway with a new gun.

The don't jump, but they don't become part of the landscape either. I sold guns for a while at what was then the state's #2 retailer of firearms. We didn't have to reorder Smiths too often. I am not saying the guns are bad -- although I have never been fond of them (I had a 1066 and a 4013 TSW) -- I just know that everyone I have know who has gone to sell them has had trouble getting a bite at anything approaching a fair price (more than 200 bucks.)
Most people I know who shoot alot do not like them. They consider them too tall, with horrid triggers, a safety disconnect that is annoying a bit bulky and the mainspring is housed in a plastic grip. Now other manufacturers share some of these problems, but few have all of them.
As I have said I have had two, I liked the 1066 which was a nice gun, but the 4013 couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. It was just a defective gun. And I don't know what they sell for new in Mass. but here a Smith usually goes for the same price as a new Beretta, Sig, Glock, etc. and therefore I really don't consider it a good buy. And as I said used ones are cheap, but if something can't hold its value better than that ...

My Dad has a Star BM and it's a solid little gun. His was badly abused and needed some gunsmith TLC but it's a fine shooter if a bit heavy.

Used CZ would be my personal 1st choice. If you can live with a .40 S&W look around for any available CZ 40B and keep an eye out for the upcomming CZ 40-P. If I can get my hands on a CZ 40-P I just might sell my CZ 40B at a reasonable price. I like the grip feel of the P-01 frame on the 40-P a little better.

A used Glock 17 or 19 would be an option but can be hard to find around $300. Particularly if they include full capacity magazines.

If you get a Ruger, I recommend against the P85. They can be found used very cheap for a good reason. The one example I had the pleasure of handling shot 4" groups at 7 yards rested. After doing some research online I found this to be not uncommon with this model.

Open Your Eyes Next Time!

4 inch groups at 7 yards!?!?!? With all due Respect Sir might I say.......... Get Outta town!:barf: Ruger makes a far better product than that!

Try a Chinese Norinco in 9mm. Used are under $100, I have a good friend who is not a gun person but wanted go shooting with us and wanted a 9mm cheap so I located one for him, I used a dremel jewelry polishing kit and worked over the rails, trigger, sear then polished the throat on the chamber, also polished and reworked the magazines and that damn thing has never failed to feed or to shoot anything and surprisingly well at that. I load him 124g cast bullets with 5.8g of Unique. I have a 1964 Chinese Vietnam bring back and a Russian made in 1951 that are both in 7.62x25, are all steel, Browning design, and very reliable.

The CZ is an appealing gun, but the Ruger has to be the best value. You can pick up a NIB K95D for $309 at several shops in town. I like the P89--I may be the only person alive who considers the P89-P90 series handsome guns. The P94-P95-P97 are a bit clunky looking, but they have better triggers, and they tend to be less expensive than the earlier designs. For example, a P89 runs about $339 new at the same shops selling P95Cs for $309.

I guarantee you will do better than four inch groups at 7 yards at rest, unless you are blind and/or in the midst of an epileptic seizure.

It's tough to beat that combination of reliability and value.

Hate to ask a silly question.... but what do you plan to use it for? That may help the "experts" zone in on what might be "GOOD". ;)

Rugers are excellent, everything that everyone says... but I think there are better choices for CCW if that is what you intend to do with it. If you just want something to take out and run through a box of WW bulk on the weekends, knock around with... a CZ or Ruger would do just fine. Since you are going 9mm, weight may be a factor to consider... that is, you don't need as much to control the recoil.

I have owned a CZ100, CZ75BD and PCR. CZ100 is an excellent weapon if you tweak the trigger and like DAO. The CZ75BD was my favorite, but I sold it to pick up a PCR. I'll probably be looking for another BD soon... :D

Hey, this is an internet firearms foru, Common Sense is not allowed.....

You're absolutely correct, though, intended use and actual budget would be entertaining.

Best/Cheap 9MM

Greeting All Ya'll!

This is my first post to THR as I just found you today.

Prior to reading my recommendation, please relax and engage your smirk/snikker supressors.

DAEWOO DP51C, 10rd double stack +1, full ambi, tri-action.

L 7.2, H 4.8 Barrel 3.7. 26 oz.

Basically a revision of the SW5900 series for the S. Korean army. Being a small handed leftie it is a perfect fit for hand and wallet at $299. new.

I heard that snikker in the back there:scrutiny:

The IDPA guys at our club managed to supress the snikker and look into the sun to mask the smirks. After passing it around the comments were: not bad, good fit, nice trigger, pretty accurate!.

I can slap the 10" gonge at 25 meter 6-7 time out of 10. The same as with my Glock 17.

The mag release can be reversed to left or right handed. SW5900 mags will fit, including 12 round pre-ban.

The safety releases the trigger from the hammer and clears the pin. It will not fire from an impact on the hammer while the safty is on. load it, push the hammer forward and you are ready.
The first triger pull (with safety off) rolls the hammer back to the full-cocked with light preasure, then you have the short pull of a single action. Works very well.

Avoid polution and litter, hit with the first one!

Thanks:)

At one time my people knew the meaning B.O.H.I.C.A. but the knowledge has been lost in the mist of time. We know it was important, funny, thus important.

If with age comes wisdon, why does it also bring fogetfullness:confused:

Sorry, but I just don't believe that. The CZ75 is not the first 9mm I have owned! Believe me, I have done the rounds and the CZ75 is a best buy for it's price range, and is also one sweet shooting handgun at any price.

I have friends that own Berettas, Glocks, Sigs, etc. that like the way my CZ shoots and handles better! It is the ONLY $350 gun I know of that will shoot as good as most $500-$600 guns.

But...SIGs cost more, so they MUST be better.
