Why are they hit and miss from everyting I have read the past few years.I find their prices to be in the realistic realm, do they make crap or is it just a bad rap.
Ive owned a few rifles from century, and for the money spent on them, they arent bad. I wouldnt go so far as to compare them to the higher end versions of the same models produced/imported by other companies, but they arent complete junk usually.
What others said... the import/surplus firearms are fine, and I think their pricing is good for those products. Some of the stuff they build, on the other hand, leaves a bit to be desired. I think that drunken monkey in #3 is actually working on my rifle.
If they just import and sell, they are fine. If their hoards of angry beavers with grinders and black spray paint get at them, that is a whole different story.
If Century assembles the firearm, there is no QC. They assembled thousands of Lee-Enfields, for example, out of parts bins without bothering to ensure the headsapce was safe. Ditto for the FAL's they assembled. No consideration for inch vs metric parts. Slap 'em together and get 'em sold.
Century also has some sleezy business practices. They billed my credit card and never shipped me anything. When I called all I got were excuses and it will ship in a couple days. It never shipped so I cancelled the order then disputed the charges.
That was the first and last time I did business with them.
