OK, fairly new to reloading, but is there a big difference in .223 vs .224 and .451 vs .452? Any damage, pros or cons, or is it a personal peference?

There are differences, and it mostly depends on what guns you're loading for. Couple quick examples:

.451 is best for .45 ACP. .452 is best for .45 Colt and .454 Casull.
.429 and .430 are both interchangeable for .44 Magnum loads. Boils down to how tight your particular .44's barrel is.
.355 is 9mm. .357 is .357 Mag and .38 Special.

.223 vs .224. I believe .224 is used in .22-250 and the other 'big' .22 rifles. .223 is generally used for .223 Remington/5.56 NATO chambered guns.

1) Not really thrilled by the whole concept of a "shocktrooper." Sorry, but Daddy killed a whole buncha nazis...

2) Look 'em up. Different cartridges (not calibers) get different names... There's a whole buncha .22s... .22, .222, .222 mag, .223, .220R, etc., etc...

For instance, the .357 and .38 Special shoot the same diameter bullets...

Y'all ain't from 'round here, are you? I suggest you keep an open mind, and research information in impartial areas. Look at the stuff you find here, and at the stuff you find on Democratic Underground. See who tells the truth.

Shocktroop-in the case of the 45, the .451 vs .452, for the 45ACP, your jacket bullets are going to be .451 and your lead loads are going to be .001 bigger at .452. Generally, cast lead bullets are going to be just slightly larger and are made to swage down when fired.

As to all the "differences" out there, its not necessarily what you think.

Good example. 30-06 (7.62 x 63) and 308 Winchester (7.62 x 51) both take the same diameter bullet. The Russian 7.62 x 39 is not a 7.62 at all (.308) but .311.

Bone up on what cartridge you are reloading for before you crank the handle. Any good reloading manual, such as Lyman's 47th ed and others will give you specifics on what to assemble. It's best not to substitute components from what is in the book until you get some experience under your belt.

In the case of .223 vs .224, almost all .22 cartridges will use the .224 regardless of the caliber designation....except some older .22Hornet. And, the projo's for Hornet velocities are normally thinner jacketed and won't hold together at higher velocities.
