cheapest GOOD AR15 is a doublestar for $699

if you build the lower yourself you save $30.

Ive built a little over 50 AR15.........if i find a good used upper, ive built more than 5 ARs for just under $500 total....but thats not easy to do.

bushmaster doesnt make any part on their ARs.

rock river doesnt make any part on their ARs............

etc etc etc.

best made LOWER is doublestar,....its anodized AND teflon coated....unquestionably matter lower finish than bushmaster (aka bushwacker) or RRA.

paying $250+ more for "bushmaster" on the lower is sheer stupidity...

does it have a better resale value?? yes...but its not a better made AR.

I go in October, but I want my ducks in a row so when I get back I'll have everything in a row.

if you want a inexpensive gun without sacrificing qualtiy than it will be bes to build your own. if you get the bottom of the bareel ar from a factory, that is enexpensive there are ones out there that will give you that type of performance. it also is a factor of what you are gonna use it for, for a gun that is gonna see alot of action thousands of rds down range and lots of trigger time, i suggest that you spend the extra and get qualtiy if you want to buy form an established company rather than build one.

i own bushmaster as a matter of fact i have owned 2 and i have experience with alot of different bushmaster models and they have been great. there are other great comapnies out there that you can get a good ar for little money and still get quality. bushmaster, rra, dpms, and some say stag which i have no expereince with.

you will have plenty of money that per diem check that you get after you return from the sandbox will be plenty to get you set up nice with a good ar and accesories. my per diem is all ready allocated to a 1911. be safe an let us know what you decide.

Call BS all you want
complete Stag lower with 6 pos $175
complete Stag 16"upper w/b/c/h$400
complete Stag m4gey $575

RRA are a lil more been a while since I did one like that but the stripped lowers are $110 for regular or "pistol use only" Its just a 3 monthish wait. I just got 3 (2 consecutive #)

Hello, as a retired 19D myself and with son's in the 82nd I will give you the advice I gave them. Go to the EE on ar15.com and look for a RR, Cav Arms, or Bushmaster lower. Then get the best upper you can. You will often get great deals there. I'd go for a Colt, LMT, or POF upper if possible. If not go ahead and get a Rock River or Bushmaster upper. In truth they are fine weapons. One of my son't wants to shoot service rifle competition so he chose a Rock River NM A-2.

if youre looking for a cheap one that will work good, and you know someone with a FFL, have them order you the parts for one, and you assemble it, it's cheap, it's easy, and it works well if you get the right parts

The ONLY part you need an FFL for is the lower receiver. Its considered to be the "firearm" per the ATF.

The other parts you can order yourself. Alot of place sell "kits" - these are EVERYTHING you need EXCEPT the lower receiver.

Buy a kit, buy a receiver.....sit at the kitchen table for 45 mins with some simple hand tools and you have a rifle.

Got a ffl that lives in the Livingston area. He doesnt advertise. I found him by chance. It usually takes a week or two for us to meet up due to work on both ends. I dont know if he deals with shipping. His secure sight for his ffl criteria is just a big safe. He doesnt keep an inventory.

I have no problem with asking him if he would like to start selling via the web. I cant do the lowers cuz I am not a ffl and it might be considered a straw purchase. And I think the JBT have something about building with the intent to sell. But I would love to start selling the uppers.

The $400 upper I refer to is the 16" A3 with flatop gas block ie no sights.
Checking on the A3 with FSB with ARMS #40.

I will talk to him and see if I can work something out. Like I said he's not in it for the $$$ but If its the best price around and he makes a lil its win win.

As a "someday but not now" AR-15 owner, I would like to know what takes that 45 minutes. If the upper is complete, and the lower is complete, don't you just pin them together?

Or does it take awhile to add the optical sights, the folding iron sights, the flashlight, bipod etc?

A kit comes with all the parts but a stripped lower receiver.

You have to put the lower parts kit, ie hammer, disconnector, safety etc into the lower receiver. That procedure requires tapping in some roll pins and pushing some other pins together. This commonly takes anywhere from 30 mins to 1 hour, depending on skill level and what parts your putting together.

Here is a simple step by step of putting together a lower receiver.

There we go. See, that complete Stag lower is so far below any price I have seen that it really has to be seen to be believed.

I'd order one, but don't have the cash right now since I just bought a lower a week or two ago. Kind of wish I would have waited. But anyone near that guy who can pickup and avoid shipping/FFL charges has agreat deal going for them.

Thanks.

I have bought 4 or 5 firearms through him and he has never done me wrong. He is good people.

This is great information. I'm about 40 miles from Livingston and have just sent Mike an email.

Thanks!

My cousin works at Del-ton and puts their rifles together. How about you give my family some business? :)
