What's up with South Carolina?

So my mom lives in SC, works in NC, and is taking the class at the end of this month. She is completely new to gun ownership and concealed carry. Is there anything really important that I should tell her concerning NC/SC laws?

In NC - as mentioned before, you can't carry in any place that serves alcohol. More stupid restrictions include no carry in any place that charges admission, or a parade or funeral.

A real zinger is that you can't carry in "areas of emergencies." While a smart CCWer won't go LOOKING for such things, sometimes it happens that one could be caught up in one...!

NC has some shaky "open carry" laws, but ALSO has a law against "going armed to the terror of the people..." so unless you KNOW you're in a sheeple-free, cops-friendly-to-open-carry area, it's not worth it.

NC law does NOT lay out any specific requirements for a business to "post" no CCW (unlike, say the Texas '30.06 signs' I always hear about). So tell her to look CLOSELY at the doors of any place she ain't sure about. Bi-Lo grocery stores DID have just a tiny, 2x2 inch 'gunbuster' sign on a larger poster with about a dozen OTHER tiny 2x2 inch signs all lumped together...

The stupid little restrictions really only make me mad when I'm laying them out like this for the benefit of someone else. Day-to-day, I'm not really bothered by it. Hmm...I just realized I should write some legislators and tell them of all the money I take to TENNESSEE to go see movies, since I can't do it in my home state! :)

(BTW, this post is NOT all-inclusive, and IANAL. Check packing.org or handgunlaw.us for better info!)
