when disaster really happens, most likely you won't be able to keep your guns when they are needed most. just look at Katrina, guns are confiscated and you end up defenseless anyway (if you are law abiding citizen).

also there are laws during state emergency/riot etc you can't carry your guns when they are needed the most for self protection

Each and every one of those laws are under review and are being contested as being unconstitutional. The fiasco during Katrina has brought up several law suits against the state for violations of 2a.

Not to mention there is now a federal law created in the wake of Katrina specifically prohibiting gun confiscation by the Feds. Many states have made laws mirroring this on a local level. I know Michigan has, at any rate.

MN is attempting to pass a law prohibiting the confiscation of firearms during an emergency. Even with martial law in place. This law is in a package of a few others, like the stand your ground doctrine. It passed the Senate and will go to the House soon.

I thought there was another thread here on THR on the same subject. My State, Kentucky passed legislation preventing the Louisiana type of gun confiscation during a emergency/crisis/shtf type of situation. A number of other states have passed similar laws.

Edit: here is the thread

Not exactly ... they passed legislation making it illegal.

This is the classic mis-belief that laws prevent crimes. They don't, they simply define crimes.

The ONLY thing that will =prevent= confiscation is armed resistance when they come for yours.

most likely you won't be able to keep your guns when they are needed most.

You may want to search "anti Katrina laws" and "anti confiscation laws" before such a blanket statement is so casually tossed out there.

Those of us that were paying attention to what happened went to work making sure it would be nearly impossible in our states by getting anti confiscation laws passed.

i am no lawyer but i believe those LEO's in katrina broke laws and 2A
how to prevent it? add more laws?

ns66 ... no, not by more laws. Just an absolute refusal to submit to illegal and unconstitutional acts by anyone "in authority".

There's an old saying, locks keep out only the honest.

Who will protect our rights, if the people who are supposed to protect them are the ones violating them? How was it not patently obvious to those making decisions in Katrina, that what they were doing violated the Constitution? I am pretty sure some of the LEOs who were confiscating guns themselves said they felt what they were doing was wrong.

As mkg said above, laws don't prevent crimes, the define them and provide for the punishment of those breaking them.

When you have a Glock or M4s pointed at you, you give them up! When they came to my home &illegally took one of mine was not the time to argue! I got it back before they left! The point is they only got 1! The others were locked up or at other locations! NEVER LEAVE ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET! Hideing things is an old custom here in the U.S.A.!READ your history. What were the redcoats doing at Concord &Lexington?

What it all comes down to is force. The strong will take what they want and make no mistake, a SWAT team in an armoured vehicle is stronger than an armed individual.

Lessons were learned after Katrina. I doubt they'll be taking away otherwise legally owned guns from folks at home.

However, you probably can't take a gun to an emergency shelter.

This may be true, but the individual can always choose to make them pay dearly for their Treason.

I've been through several hurricanes and have bugged out in the face of hurricanes. I've always been heavily armed because when the wind starts to blow and the feeder bands are hitting your area the only protection that you have is what protection you brought with you. The power goes out, then the landlines go out, and if the cell towers are still working they are either jammed with people trying to make calls or if FEMA is in the area they take priority on the cell network and you can't call 911 if you life depends on it. If there are any police or emergency staff left in your area, remember they want to evacuate their families too, they are usually concerned with their own survival and taking care of immediate problems. You are on your own, be prepared! I know, I've been there and have done it too many times.

NDAA

I think the newly passed NDAA blanket would trump any rights you have. It's sad to say but the Govt will do what it wants, when it wants. There is absolutely NOTHING we can do about it. There is no pro 2nd AMD group in the world that could stop this action. A few Bubba's hiding their firearms out in the wood pile just isn't going to work or fix the problem. What are YOU really going to do when a bunch of LEO's or NG show up and ask you to turn over your firearms. I think most prudent people would comply simply because they don't want their family or themselves taken from their homes and "detained". I think we would have no warning what so ever if or when they decide to do so. I can see it now. The new reality show on GTV.... Home Grown Terrorist,Taking down the Doom Day'ers.
