It is an older flatlatch blued 36 38spl. Round butt with diamon grips. SN# off the bottom of the butt of the gun is 79945

It is a little gem. I picked it up early this summer and I have enjoyed shooting it and even carrying it once in a while. My main carry gun is a nickle M-38 but the M-36 is more fun to shoot being all steel.

1955 ended with serial number 75,000. 1957 serial numbers began at 117,770, so if I was to take a guess , 1956.-+

odd, I wonder why the large gap between 1955 and 1957. Either way, that makes it a C&R which is a good thing to know in case I decide to sell it. I like it and I got it for a good price so i think I will just keep this one.

Every J-frame I have ever sold I wish I had back so I am not going to repeat my mistakes unless I fall on hard times. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. I was unemployed once for 7-8 months and it killed me. Robbed all my savings, had to sell many of my guns. It really sucks. I guess that happens to most people once in their lives.

What large gap? Looks like they made ~43,000 J-frames in 1956.

Good year, very good year (my birth year). I have a 1956 Garand, have a 1956 license plate on the front of my vehicle, and shave with a 1956 Gillette razor, but I don't have a 1956 J-Frame (yet).

That's good to know. Now i know my flat latch 36 (SN 35XXXX) was made in 1955.

Anybody know about when a model 60 SN R35XXX was made?
