Everyone seems to be making budget 1911's these days:

1. Taurus (Promised 9mm but has never surfaced)
2. Springfield (GI models...45 only)
3. STI (Spartan model.....45 only)
4. RIA (Makes a 9mm but doesn't import it)
6. Auto Ordanance (New one...I think Kahr makes it....45 only)
7. Others...

The cheapest 9mm seems to be a Kimber for about $750.
Para Ordinance 1911's with the LDA triggers do not interest me. I want a true 1911.....except for the 9mm part.

Does anyone know of a budget 1911 in 9mm on the horizon?

Check over on forum.m1911.org - they're the ones to know if one is in the works.

I know Rock Island was talking one up a year or so ago, that it would be in the same price range as their GI and Tactical .45 models, but I've gotten out of the loop over there...

I asked a question once about buying one of their .38 Supers and converting it to 9mm. That's an option that will get you into a 9mm for less than the Kimber, but it's still in the 500-600 range (IIRC) when it all adds up.

Yep, Q's right, the cheapest way is to get a RIA in 38 super and get a 9mm barrel. You're right at $500-$550 that way, on par with most other low-buck 1911's.

The guys at Advanced Tactical (the Armscor/RIA import and service office in Nevada) have announced that they will be bringing in 9mm pistols "very soon" (probably before the end of the year). Stay tuned.
