Hello

I am very happy with my RIA 1911 .45, full sized frame, but would like to find a 1911 framed 9mm to save ammo costs at the range. I would also like to it to be a 4-4.25' length barrel.

Is there such a model that is moderately priced? I believe Kimber, Springfield and Colt have them...but all those models seem to be close to $1000 (out of my price range, i am afraid). Maybe the Para LTC....but no one seems to have those and not sure I want a Para.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

J

ps - no other 9mm's are considered..even the BHP...I really would like it to be a 1911.

I'm looking for the same except in 5". Lots of .38 Supers $500-650, but no 9mm :(

In the meantime I make do with either my Star BM (4" single stack 1911-like) or my Armscor 9mm Para P18 clone (double stack 1911).

The Star BM were available as "Spanish Police Surplus" everywhere a few years ago for ~$150 although spare mags were a bit of a problem, but they seem to have pretty much dried up.

Hi Wally

Thank you for your reply. I tried looking for info on the Armscor and could not find anything. You would think they would be the ones to come out with something. Perhaps in time.

I can tell you that I am very happy with my RIA .45 and shoot it as well as my friends gunsmith accurized Colt .45.

I too am making due. I have a really great SIG P239 and shoot it nearly as accurately as the .45. The SIG accuracy really surprised me, but there is no question, it is everything everyone says about SIG's. It fills out the compact size and more economical caliber part of my collection.

So.... I really would like to find a 4" 1911 framed 9mm, single stack.

If you want a full sized one, I think you can find the Springfield 1911 9mm in stainless for $700-800. I considered it, but just do not want to go that high and do not want full sized. I want a 4", Commander sized to round out my collection. That would be ideal.

I have seen advertisements for a Taurus 1911 framed 9mm, full sized, but have never seen any in stock anywhere...not sure they are out yet...but perhaps. If you would be interested in Taurus.

A good friend has a nickle plated Colt Commander in 9mm.....which is one of his fav's and his just will not part with it. They also seem fairly dearly priced on the used market.

If you have any links to info on the Armscor 9mm, please do post, along with a pic, if you have one.

Still open to suggestions.

Best

John

STI Spartan, government size 9mm around $650, Para Ordnance 1911 LTC 9mm Maybe $750. Kimber AegisII $900, to save on practice ammo by spending 700 bucks for a pistol, one can buy a lot of ammunition, or reloading supplies and equipment. But buying a new pistol would be my choice too.

STI Spartan, government size 9mm around $650

Is it actually available? The STI .45 Spartan is an Armscor base gun, if the 9mm Spartan is actually shipping maybe we'll see the long over due RIA this year.

STI is good stuff but since the only purpose is to shoot cheap ammo, $650 is a good bit more than I'd like to spend. I gave $450 for my Armscor P18 clone double stack 1911. This is the price range I'd wish for!

the 9mm Spartan should be out in Q1 this year.
the early info is that the 9mm Spartan will not have a ramped barrel.

Thank you for the suggestions. It does appear that the Para LTC or SSP in 9mm is the lowest costs thus far (still not as low as I would like). STI is a great suggestion, The Guardian looked good, but it is 900 or so. Will look for the Spartan in 9mm. Thanks

I am holding out for the Taurus to be released in 9mm. That will be one of my next purchases when they are released, I am willing to wait, I think they will be sub $600, maybe even in the $500 range.

On another note, I just saw a local ad in Ohio for a Colt 1911 in 9mm for $750, it even comes with a 38 super barrel. Seller may be willing to ship.

There is one posted here in the handguns for sale section for $550

Thanks

I have looked at the Taurus 1911 in 9mm online. It has been listed for a couple of years now. I am definitely NOT going to hold my breath for that one. If I were going to get a full sized 1911 in 9mm, it would probably be the Springfield....though it is not cheap...but not expensive either (by some standards).

Saw the DW Guardian. It looks like the STI Guardian. STI might be worth waiting for. Or see how I might find the Para.

Oh well....the search continues.

Thx
