Ive actually been getting lucky and finding it privately on classifieds on forums. Most of the online etailers are out. Natchez had WWB for 31.xx for 100 yesturday. Who knows if there is any left.
Depends on brand but .45 is hard to get here I ordered 2000 rds from Cabelas just cuz it was easy. not the cheapest but it did get here in only two weeks.
Rem UMC is avaliable about the same price everywhere that it is sold, it is not the cheapest ammo out there, but it is probably the best price-to-performance ratio. UMC IS quality ammunition, not just your ordinary bulk.
Hop in your time machine and take a trip. You ain't gonna find factory new manufactured .45 ACP for less than 25 cents a round any more. More like $.40 / round in these parts. Of course, that's just what the label on the bare shelf says...
Where do you buy inexpensive .45 ammo?
Should read when did you buy your cheap ammo.
Ammo is out there, some places cheaper than others. If you check often enough you get a feel for when it's in stock if you need some.
Some days it's everywhere... minutes later poof.
Soon as a good deal comes in someone lets the cat out of the bag and poof.
Gotta love the innernet.
Buy ammo in bulk, haunt the ammo sites and when it gets in, click the buy button.
1000 rounds of ammo is not a lot. At least to me anyway. So you have to pay shipping and wait.
What else are ya gonna do? Piss and moan about it or go shooting?
Won't be long before everyone figures out that ammo is not going away and stops buying it at a panic rate.
Dick's Sporting Goods had some Remington 230gr on sale for $20 for 50, with a 20% discount if you bought 10 boxes. That's the best I've found. I've seen Blazer for close to the same price at a couple smaller locations. FMJ, all of it, though. Don't bother with JHP, and forget about finding things like Gold Dot.
I'm reloading for about 18 cents a round (1c brass + 12c bullet +3c primer + 2c powder), or $9 per 50. In the past, it has been a few cents cheaper, but the price has shot up on lead (since this time last year) and primers (last few months).
In the short run, the cheapest "local" place, IF you have one and IF they have any, is going to be your local WalMart.
Other than that, you are down to mail order or what ever local shops you have.
I say in the "short run", because in the "long run" the cheapest place is going to be the local shop you like doing business with. If you want to do a bulk ammo purchase with them, I'd wager they'll dicker price with you.
Once the local shop is gone (for lack of business from everybody looking for the "cheapest" place), the ONLY place will be WalMart or mail order ... and then I can assure you it won't be cheap.
I have been looking for bulk for a few weeks now - a case or so (1,000 rounds). Last two places that I checked that had it were $.45 & $.48 a round At case prices, I passed on those. Check the threads here, and google and click...
Nothings going to be "cheap" anymore for the short term, at least, IMHO. Depends on how bad you need it? Sad but many are paying *whatever* just to get it...
