Theres a free DNR range in Grass Lake (about an hour & 15 from me), and cheap ones ($4-7 a day) in Waterford, Lake Orion, and Brighton, all about 45 mins away
I can load up quite a few separate but small lot loads, differing in powder load, COL, etc and go out and shoot all at once. Take notes, compare, etc right there, and then go back home to work on several more batches.
So instead of working on a load or two and frequenting the range, I can work up a several loads and go out fewer times.
