I am going to sell my Colt AR-15. It's a Preban A2 Sporter 2 in excellent cond. What should I ask for it? Also which tricked out Colt AR would you buy, why and what would it cost new?

I hope you didn't miss the boat on the good selling prices for stuff like that.

I sold a pre ban green label box Colt Government Carbine a few years ago on gunbroker. I got $2700 for it. hehehe

Which Colt??

I'd go with the LE6920, if it were me.
They "went" for around $1300-$1400 a awhile back, not sure now.

i woulddn't buy a colt, you could get a bushmaster, rra, or heck have one built and tricked out beyond belief and probally still have money left over. I stay away from buying a name and colt is one of the companies that sells so high because of the name, but it isn't there fault some people must want there stuff bad enough to pay that outrageous amount for them.

I would have to agree with possum. I have had two Colts. One a rifle the other the car. Both had Colt uppers and lowers and were made in the early 70s. I have had two Bushmasters. Both cars, one with attached handle the other (which I still have) a flattop. The Bushmasters are reliable and very accurate.

If I were in the market for an AR right now I think I'd wait and see the Colt gas op (I can never remember the number)

I'd keep what you have. The pre-ban Colts are better built than anything available today in my opinion (except for a new Colt:) ), but you won't get what it's really worth if you sell it. If you simply must have new AR, sell it for $800 and put the funds toward a new Colt 6920 ($1250 or so from Clyde Armory).

HTH,

The statements about Colt are not accurate.

Do not compare the sporter Colts to the LE Colts (which are available to civilians). The LE Colts are the best AR's on the market.

If you get a 6520 or a 6920, you are buying the highest quality AR there is.

Colt 6920's rock!!

Colt's ARE WORTH MORE than the other AR's mentioned on this thread.
That's why they demand a higher price.

Tested, checked, and staked before they leave the factory.
Unlike so many other brands.
Mil spec features.....standard.

When you get a LE6920 your getting a proven "weapon", not a weekend "plinking" rifle.
We report.....You decide.

I sold one just recently

SPorter II green label in nice condition.
$900 to $1000 is about right.

There was something about it that was different than all the bushmasters, eagle/armalites I've shot. It was definitely better.

there are alot of pmc's that use "weekend plinking" rifles if that is what you mean by the other brands mentioned, and they are doing just fine.

have you ever used a Colt in combat conditions? or any weapon for that matter?

No, I have not used a Colt in "combat conditions".
Have you?

Yes, I'm quite aware that BW used or uses Bushmaster firearms.
I'm sure others do as well.
So what?? What's that prove?

I would assume that Blackwater and other PMC's wouldn't send out those weapons out the door without first "proofing" them beforehand.

BM doesn't even stake the gas keys from the factory, for one example.
They going to send those AR's to Iraq with unstaked gas keys??

That said, I really don't know or care what they do.

There are several PMC that use AK's as primary weapons.

Look friend, my post was in no way meant to belittle other AR's or the folks that use them.
All I'm saying is the LE Colts are good to go FROM THE FACTORY.

No, I have not used a Colt in "combat conditions".
Have you?

Yes I have as a matter of fact,o as well as FN made m16a4's, fn made 240b's,c's, m249's.

i hate to disagree witha fellow Nort Carolinian, not trying to start a debate, but i guess you have your opinions and i have mine that is what is so great about these forums. see you see a colt G2G out of the box, and i see that other comapnies are the same and cost less, so unless i have ridiculious amounts of money there is no reason for me to spend all that extra when i can get what i believe is equivelent for less that is all i am saying man! we don't get paid that good, well not yet anyway, i am just an e-5!:)

You could spend an extra $100-200 and get a Knight's SR-15 Match. If you wanted something better than the LE Colts.

If you wan't Colt quality control plus personal TLC in your custom AR, I recommend GG&G. If you're cheap like me you can always kit-bash what you want from a DPMS. ;)

Possum, what branch? I was an E-5 before a leg injury at Rhein-Main (stupid me) made me non-deployable and a Mr.

Us.Army Infantry. yeah i have been to Rhein- main a few times, to and from Iraq and R&R! sorry you got hurt, and i hope the military didn't screw you over to bad, like they have several of my buddies that were seriously wounded. But thanks for all you did brother. i assume that you were in the Airforce, and if so I am jealous, i wish i would have went airforce, and went the PJ route, but i will be all right I reckon!

And you could get a RRA lower and a Clark Gator semi custom upper with .5 MOA guaranteed for $1000 even.....

Why pay more?

7 years Air Force Fire Department. I was fortunate enough to spent time in Okinawa, Korea, Germany, Spain, Florida and oklahoma.

...And if anyone is from Oklahoma, I spent 2.5 years in Altus. Nuf said.

Just the reason I joined this forum. I'm in the market for an AR and lately I've developed a real headache trying to decide: Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite....Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite....Colt.... you get the point!

I live in Hawaii and the local Gun runners..uh..dealers keep throwing the Bushys in my face. I have no experience with them but I hear nothing but good things about them. I only have one problem though. I am a colt FREAK and can't help it even though everyone is ranting at Colt's quality control or lack thereof, ie split pins, broken bolts and shoddy casting. Still at a loss for what I should choose. Mostly removed Armalite from the running so it is now a tossup between Bushmaster and Colt.

C'mon people, make my mind up for me! :scrutiny:

Comparing Colt, Bushmaster and Armalite is like comparing Ford, Chevy and Dodge. They all do the same thing, in the same manner. The only difference is which you happen to personally prefer. I have a Bushmaster with 1,400 rounds through it without cleaning, (except the barrel). It has never once malfunctioned or broken. Nuff said.

I've been thoroughly impressed with my M&P 15. The gas key is staked, for what it's worth. Got it for under 900.
