Which Mora Knife Do I Buy?

Has anyone ever put grip tape on the handle of the #1? Surely, that would help with the slipping to some degree.

Good, I'm not the only one!
I was thinking about making a sheath for my Mora when it comes in. Based off of what I saw in photos and video, it looks like a weak link. I'll see how I feel about it when I have it in hand. It has a drainage hole, right?

That sounds good! :)

The number one sheath did not...all other I've seen do. I put a hole in the one that didn;t just with a drill bit between my fingers.

Mora Swedish Army Sheath

I used the plastic sheath it came with and riveted it in place. Inspired by the Air Force Survival Knife Sheath.

Nice sheath HoosierQ!
I received the Mora 840 mg Carbon Clipper yesterday, it's neat. :)
They were not kidding when they stated they come sharp! I'm already thinking about which one to get next. Maybe something stainless for the car, another to throw in my camping gear. Would anyone know if two models are used by military forces, or just the one?

Sportsman's guide has:

CX9C-137820 2 New Swedish Military Mora Knives

$24.97

Hoosier, dude, you're amazing.I've done some leatherwork, made a lot of my own sheaths and holsters over the past forty or so years, but that is nice work .
I also like Dirty Bob's knife sheath ''frog''.

Thanks man. I was actually starting out to do this one as a frog but I got carried away and went with this. The frog route I think is a good one and I'll probably come back to do one.

My plan is to buy about half a dozen of these Craftsmen series knives and just use the heck out of 'em and see how they resharpen.

Have several of the cheaper Mora knives, and recently ordered a Model 311 from Ragnar :

A very pretty and lightweight little user with a decent Scandi style leather sheath- has belt loop and button slot.
This has been fun- has no guard, which makes me pay a bit more attention, but it can do some really good work.

I use the Mora klipper knives at work. 50Sek = 6 dollars. I go through a knive a month. Cheap, good and disposable:)

Here is a Lauri knife (similar in design to Mora and a German dagger blade I made handles and sheaths for. The scabbards are wood and I'm working on the frogs to carry them right now. Sorry the pics so darn big. The dagger handle is crepe myrtle (sp?) and the Lauri is Aspenwood both scabbards are poplar with 2 outside layers around a 3rd inner cutout layer. The Lauri blade I ordered from Bens Backewwods for about 8 bucks. The dagger is a Rosco Damascus dagger post WWII I got off ebay. the old handle was jacked up so I made one.

Got my Mora GI knive in Carbon steel today from the Sportsman Guide for 15 bucks with shipping. It came out shaving sharp. I plan on getting some more for around the house and cars.

Don't neglect the Finnish knives! I recently purchased a Rapala fillet knife (made by Marttiini) for $12 at my local Academy Sports, after noticing that Wally Mart has removed its Scandinavian fillet knives in favor of stuff from China.

This was $12 well spent (also found some buckshot while there). I've sealed the blade / handle joint with JB-Weld, and I plan to wax-impregnate the very good leather scabbard to prolong its useful life. The whole knife and sheath weighs just a few ounces, and it arrived very sharp.

All my best,
Dirty Bob

My knife tastes are about as screwed up as my musical tastes. My iTunes is replete with Styx, ACDC, Barry Manilow, Carpenters, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Donny Osmond, Duke Ellington, and a whole bunch or weirdos that few have ever heard of. My taste in knives is similar. I have Busses, Spydercos, Randalls, Bucks, and Moras all in the same drawer.

Speaking of Moras, I am also a big fan of Ragweed Forge. Ragnar has been great to deal with. I like the 911 because I prefer carbon steel for knife blades, but I also have a model 860 with a blue handle because it's a good knife for fishing up here in Alaska. Both models have good serviceable sheaths.
