Which Night Sights for my Glock 26 Gen 4?

Hienie's are my favorite night sights. The Ledge rear sight is very nice.

I took my XS sights off. They are too slow at ranges past 10y. And I don't need sights when closer than 10y.

I just got xs big dot. Will let you know how they are next weekend.

I have a set, they work great for up close work (15-20 yards or less).

True, but only at first. With enough practice, they are just as fast as traditional sights. With enough practice, any sights mentioned thus far are great.

perfect. with my g23 i dont shoot past that distance except once in a blue moon.

Here are some pics of the I-DOTS (Ameriglo)

Front sight is tritium + the orange outline

rear sight is tritium with .180 rear sight window.

I use them on the front site only. I put my 2nd on my glock30, after 12 years. Trijicon, offered to replace it for free, if i would send the slide in to them. I must say they stand behind their products. For 30 bucks it wasn't worth laying up and shipping the gun. I find them good when you are reaching for your gun late at night, especially if you were asleep and something went bump in the night. I bought 3 guns in the past 6 months, replacing 3 others that I did not shoot. So I still need to put the front on 2 of them. the lcp dosen't have that concern. But the taurus slim and the g26 need them now.

My big dots should be here tomorrow from MidwayUSA (on sale for 89$ now). Going to the range tomorrow so if they're here I'll instal them and shoot and report back, if not it'll be here this weekend and I'll shoot and report.

Two guns better than one night-sighted gun?

ForumSurfer - Thanks for the reply and the benefit of sharing your experience with lasers and night sights.

Thanks to all that provided pictures and links - they have been very useful in helping me make a decision in their regard. If anyone has a link (Name of Manufacturer) for the XS Big Dot I would appreciate it.....Doc

One other question: I was rasied on plain, black sights - I am comfortable with them shoot them well.

1 - Is that going to present a problem using night sights during the day?

2 - If there is a problem, do you think training will overcome it?

3 - Would it be better to use a gun with plain sights during the day and
a night-sighted gun for evening wear? (I can see a logistics problem and
problem being in a well lit area at night with only a night-sighted gun.)

Any thoughts?

I like these I-DOTS by ameriglo. the front site is highlighted with an orange circle to acquire the site fast. Two thumbs up here..

Me, too. I prefer plain black, serrated all day long. I think that is why I'm a fan of the Heinie's. I'll take better pics tonight so you can see what I mean since we have similar preferences.

1 - Is that going to present a problem using night sights during the day?

It was for me.

2 - If there is a problem, do you think training will overcome it?

An open mind, training and practice make us overcome many things. Sights are pretty easy to adapt to. But if you want/need/feel moved to change them, you may as weell get what you like.

Maybe it is just me, but that seems crazy. :)

XS big dot Sight on front...I don't bother changing out the rear sights...Even if you don't get Big Dots, not that necessary to change out the rear sight.

Personally, I like sights that do not LOOK like night sights. I dont want everyone in a dark room to know where i am based on my sights....

I like the constant dim of these:

Sorry to use this pic, its of a firearm I sold, but you get the point.

I had the Trijicon installed on my G19C. I haven't had the time to get them on the G17 and G26 yet.

Agreed. I just find that whit "U" to be distracting. No matter how much I practice, my eye is drawn to focus on it like a moth to a flame. I can get by with the factory sights just fine, but only after I paint that "U" with a sharpie. It's the shooter that is a problem, not the sight. :)

ForumSurfer - Again, thanks for the reply to my questions.

Also, the article in the gun rag was interesting. I like articles where the author converts himself by experimentation. They're usually more credible, imo, than the usual proving-my-point fare we often see.

Apparently, my misspelling prevented me from Googling XS Big Dot and your link got me to their site where I found the following instruction (posted below) to make more precise hits at the longer distances.

Good thread. I am running Heinie's on only one of my guns. I been going back & forth as to what I really want on all of my guns. I want the same sight picture on every one of them, but I'm no where close to achiving that right now. This helps narrow it down some but I need to study it more. Paralysis through analysis I guess...

My take on night sites

Great things IF the target was also lighted. Night sights do what all sights do, they aligned the barrel to a target. If it is dark and you can't see the target then it is a mute point now isn't it? I use the CTC laser grip and when the dot arrives at the target then disaster will follow shortly! Also the older we get the less the eyes focus, especially at night (I should know) and this in itself puts all alignment sights out. My Sig P220 has the CTC grips and I can put round after round into a target 4" at 50 ft. in all lighting conditions. Don't waste money on night sites.

I completely and respectfully disagree. We are most certainly not moot, if it is sooooo dark that I can't see the target exactly how do I identify this black blob in a sea of blackness? I train and practice for self defense. I have to identify my target or I could be shooting an LEO, my girlfriend or my kids. If there is enough light to identify what I am shooting, then there is enough light to stack my two green dots center of mass.

I use the CTC laser grip and when the dot arrives at the target then disaster will follow shortly!

Because batteries never die. :) I'm just saying, I've owned CTC's before and liked them...but I can live without them. I can live without night sights, too. I can live without good defensive ammo since I never actually use it in self defense. See where I'm going? Why not allow yourself to be prepared?

Also the older we get the less the eyes focus, especially at night (I should know) and this in itself puts all alignment sights out.

Yes, our eyes do lose focus. But I shoot at night or in the dark so I know my eyes can focus well enough to get a good sight picture...muzzle flash and all.

My Sig P220 has the CTC grips and I can put round after round into a target 4" at 50 ft. in all lighting conditions.

So can my glocks, my 1911 and pretty much any other defensive weapon that I own with night sights.

Don't waste money on night sites.

That's your opinion. Just because you may never use them, doesn't mean they are a waste. By the same logic, those hollow tips that you never shoot anyone with are also a waste.

IMO night sights, a flashlight and CTC grips are a great combo. But I'm fine with just night sights and a light in my pocket.

I have Big Dot sights on my G-26. They are fast at CQB range, which is what I wanted. I just got a set of CT laser grips for my 442 snubby. I can't wait to try them out.

If you want the brightest - TFO's

But the factory Glock night sights aka Meps are great too.

I'm considering both for my Glock 27.

But my police range will sell me a set of new Meps for $56.

Can't beat that!

I love the concept of the XS big dot sights BUT my sub one inch groups at 25 yards with my HKP7 opened up to 1.5" inches with the XS sights even after extensive training with them and their instruction.

Took them off my P7.

They are very fast though.

I currently have XS big dots on my 26. 85% of all shooting and 100% semi shooting prior to my Glock have been a 3 dot site. I am thinking of getting rid of my XS and going to a 3 dot. I dont have problems with quick shots with 3 dot and find that my accuracy isnt as strong with the XS. I know it may be the shooter and I know in a defensive situation I probably wont aim with my dots. I accept that. I want the shooter to have every advantage I can get and not every shot is defensive. Some shots are me being attacked by paper plates, coke cans, steel plates for those I like seeing small holes close together.

I just jumped and added the Glock factory night sights to my G27. Mep tritium vials and very bright.

And if you buy them from an authorized LEA vendor you get the $56 factory pricing too.:neener:

Very happy as my CCW guns all have three dot night sights - Glock and Meps.
