*Please explain why you picked your choice on the poll*
I'm thinking about ordering a Sako rifle soon enough (assuming money "comes together" for me), but cannot decide between a 75 and 85, of whatever flavor. I know that I want a .30-06 for certain, with a wood stock. And I know that I'm going to eventually save up for a nice Leupold to sit on top, VX-II or higher. I plan to keep this rifle for the duration of my life, so I'm not taking this decision lightly. But, I just cannot decide on whichever rifle varient! I know for certain that the 75 stock is comfortable in the angle of the grip, but have never felt the 85 stock (plan to try and remedy that sometime shortly, assuming a local gunshop has one of each type in stock). It would be a "range fun" gun while trying to develop the perfect loads for it, and a hunting rifle for any given purpose--varmint hunting to deer to boar or whatever (with appropriate loads, of course)--doubtful it'll be an Elk gun, but hey, if the oppertunity arises.......

Anyhow, given that the 85 is a CRF action as opposed to the push (?) feed of the 75, and the wildcard factor of the stock for the 85, what would anyone of YOU pick? Given that it'll be a likely hunting arm and I'm not planning on ever selling the thing, what model would you pick, and which varient thereof? Thanks!

TIMC, what's the average group size you manage to get with that thing? Sure, I'll "roll my own", but it never hurts to check.

I have put 3 shot groups less than 1" @ 100 yards with it using 180 grain Remington factory ammo. I am still searching for that magic hand load for long range but I can do 2"-2 1/2" @ 200 yards pretty consistantly.

Sako 75 + 9.3x66 Sako = AWESOME big game combination. The main reason I voted for the 75 is this cartridge. (I know, Sako makes their 85 in this round now too.) It's a shame that Beretta wouldn't import the rifles in this caliber.

I absolutely dote on Sakos, even though I only have a couple. I have a couple of Tikkas and they are supurbe. Today I'd go Tikka....You won't give up a thing in the accuracy department and it wii last forever. Essex

So, for all the people who voted for the 75.....any particular reason, or is it just familiarity with that system (as a couple of neat photos above show)?

And, another question......is the Sako worth 2x the amount of a gussied-up Tikka?

I researched my rifle purchase alot along with asking alot of questions here
Do a search in the rifle forum with my name 'bigcim' or 'sako' and you will get alot of info
Hope this helps

What happened? Which rifle did you get?
What happened? My college upped the rate of tuition, so my rifle money went elsewhere, rather quickly. I think I've decided on the Sako 75 in .30-06 for once I do order one...at this point, the choice would boil down to "stainless" or "blued" to go with the wood stock. Hopefully, I'll be able to order it sometime this coming summer, assuming school doesn't up tuition during the break.

Thanks for asking!

You're making the right choice. My old man made the same choice several decades ago and got a sako 30-06, killed a bunch of game with it, and then passed it onto his son. And about the elk, 30-06 is plenty; my elk this year didn't walk 2 steps after I shot it.

I'm too late to be an influence here apparently, but I've only shot SAKO's for the last 20 years. I like the 75. Both of my current SAKO's are in 6.5X55. GREAT guns.

Not really. Mosin actions are as cheap and common in Finland as '98 Mausers are everywhere else. Or you could just get a no-date or seventies rifle, or a B barrel.
