I'm having a bit of a problem trying to figure out which scope will fit the goals that I'm trying to accomplish with my new gun that I just bought and currently building. I currently have all the parts but the scope.

The Gun:
700 SPS Tactical .308
Timmey trigger
Bell and Carlson Medalist Light Tactical Stock
Black hawk rings and mount

Goals:
Fine tune my reloading abilities
Become more accurate shooter at ranges 300 to 700 yards
Shoot pigs a long ranges 300+ yards some times (not a main hunting gun)

What I want out of the scope:
Very fine reticle mil or MOA
Tactical turrets
Up to 16 to 24x
Variable power
First Focal Plane
Under $1000

The biggest problem that I'm going through is that I want to see the scope first had before I buy it and I don't know where to go in Dallas to find scopes that fit my needs. To me the reticle is a big personal preference. And by ordering one online you really don't get to see what you going to get till it arrives on you door step. I have looked into the Votex Viper scopes but good luck trying to find one to look at. Does any one have any other suggestions on scopes and places in DFW to go and look at the first hand.

You would think but I have been there many times. They don't keep everything they have on the web site in stock for scopes. And the told me last night that they didn't carry any FFP other than Night Force in stock.

I ran into the same problem myself. Bought a Remmy 700 SPS Tactical with a custom stock, Leupold rings and base as a gift for my younger brother, but was stumped on what scope to buy. If I had the money, a Leupold Mark 4 would have been a no-brainer. They're very popular with long-range shooters. But I aint got $1000+ to shell out for one. While it's a little frustrating, part of the fun of building a custom gun is the research part.
I found two scopes that fit the bill for tactical turrets, clear glass, mil-dot, and solid construction. PLUS, they are affordable and both carry a lifetime warranty and great customer service if your not happy. I came across these two scopes while browsing the sniper shooter websites. Those guys love their guns and the info they have is invaluable.
But you can do your own research if you want.

The first scope, is the Millett TRS-1. It has great reviews and seems to be popular with quite a few long range guys. It is a BIG scope though with a 50mm objective and 17'' LOA with the sunshade.
I bought this one at Natchez Shooter Supply for $169.00!
This is a sale price though, so you better hurry. Normal retail is about $350+.
That scope should come in tomorrow by UPS.

The second scope that I would like to get for myself when I finally buy a Remmy LTR will be the SWFA SS scope. They sell that for $399.00.
PLUS, their shop is right here in good ol' Texas.
They have great reviews too, and are pretty solidly built.
From what I read, they can even be used on a .50 cal Barrett rifle.

If a person has the money to invest in a high quality rifle, scope, and accessories, then there are definitely better options. Leupold, Nightforce,GAP, Bushnell, EuroOptic, etc.
But for those of us on a budget, you can still get quality stuff without breaking the bank.

Sometimes the most expensive stuff, isnt always the best stuff.

And dont let anyone push you into believing that only the high end stuff will do.

A deer or wild pig doesnt care one bit about the brand of rifle, scope, or ammo thats shooting at him or how expensive it is, believe me.

Hope this helped you.
