dasanii19,
I'll be taking it to our family gunsmith, who will use it as a lesson for me on layout and drilling and tapping (the receiver for the rear sight) and silver soldering. This time around I'll probably be mostly watching but those are skills I can learn, and I want to learn how well enough to manage on my own.
The barrel will need refinishing after the front sight is attached, right now it's finished in pretty abused parkerizing while the receiver is typical Express matte blue. I'm planning on getting it parkerized, a friend has a set of tanks.
Robert,
Properly installed GRs take advantage of the eye's natural tendency to center the top of the front sight in the aperture of the rear. It might not be a reflex, exactly, but it sure seems close. And when you get used to using them, good GRs are as fast as any iron sighting system going.
