Who here has the most "tacti-cool" AR?

Alright, so a while ago I was browsing a gun rag and saw an AR-15 variant with eight picatinny rails on it. One where the front sight assembly would be, one each on the top, bottom, left, and right of the handguard area, one of top of the reciever, and one on each side of the reciever.

My first thought was "Who could possibly find that many things to hang on an AR-15???"

So I thought I would start this post to see who has the most stuff attached to thier AR-type rifle. Understand that curiosity is what fuels my interest, not disdain for those who put stuff on thier ARs. Also understand that we might rib you a bit...

So post pics so we can see how many pounds you have added to your AR...

If you look through a catalog for AR accessories, they've found a place to attach a rail almost everywhere on an AR. On the stock, to the barrel, handguards of course, rails on top of rails on top of rails...it is endless.


I never understood that crap. The most I would tolerate would be a free float tube that has 4 rails. Cover the ones you don't use. Mostly for free-floating though. But even then, what are you going to attach there? Are you really going to shift the position for your weapon light back and forth to the various rails? It's just nonsense.



Here's my setup. I have a flattop AR carbine. It has a pencil barrel. On the flattop I have an Aimpoint mounted on a Larue. At the rear I have a Troy Backup sight. I use the regular handguards, but on the bottom of the handguards, I attached a $15 GG&G rail that bolts through the holes in the handguard. This allowed me to securely mount a $10 pistol grip. It is ROCK SOLID. I'm sure a freefloat tube with rails would be more sturdy, but this is more than I need...No need for tactical monkey junk. Just get what you can USE or NEED. Save the weight and forget the show-off junk.


Simple stuff, light weight. Turning what is suppose to be a lightweight rifle into an 11 pound behemouth is rediculous. MANY of the design principles behind the AR were for weight considerations. The gas system is one of them, it weights very little, adds very little to the rifle. It's just a tiny tube! If you are going to negate the weight savings by adding all this junk, why not just buy a rifle platform with a piston system? Or is the idea to save weight wherever the AR does by virtue of its design - which then allows you to afford more weight elsewhere? Bah, not for me. If I wanted a heavier gun, I would buy the Springfield SOCOM and be done with it!! Short, handy, but not light. Lots of power. Has 1 rail right where it needs to be and decent irons. The new one has fallen victim to the rail-madness....they can keep it.

mine's not ubertacticool but its practical. fold down front and rear sights with 4 rail gas block and a2x red dot and an ergo grip. i also changed to an A1 FS just because.

My M-4gery is pretty much a direct copy of my issue M-4 (of course no go-fast parts and it has the 16" barrel) with the SOPMOD kit. Flat top upper, Knights handguards and forward pistol grip (if I feel in the mood for it), collapsable 6-position stock, Matech BUIS and a Trijicon reflex sight. I think though after this TDY is over, I'll probably go with an Aimpoint M-68 though. Not that there's anything wrong with the Trijicon but my unit has upgraded our reflex sights to the newer M-68 and I like to keep everything a screw-for-screw copy to practice in my off time. That's about the only reason I use the tacti-cool stuff on my M-4. Peronally, I have no use for the M-4gerys with two lights, bipod, laser sight, 50,000X scope with a reflex sight on top of that all mounted at one time. Seeing carbines with rails everywhere from muzzle to butt really doesn't float my boat either. In a lot of cases, it's a lot of gadgets in use to replace skill IMHO.

Mines pretty simple. Armalite M15A4(C) with an Aimpoint M2 on GG&G cantilever mount and GG&G BUIS.

Well, my (wife's) AR is simply a basic A2, but based on the pictures I've seen from the sandbox, here's a list of the absolute maximum amount of widgets I'd want to hang on an AR:

-folding front sight and rear BUIS
-optics of some sort (Aimpoint, EOTech, ACOG)
-IR laser for night sighting
-tactical light w/flip down IR filter
-vertical foregrip
-folding bipod
-collapsable stock

All that would probably make an M-4 weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of a stock M-14, without the ability to buttstroke anyone.

They would be a bit of a dissapointment anyway.

The big problem with sticking stuff on an AR is getting your particular stuff stuck exactly where you want it. At a price you are willing to pay.

I figure that is why there are so many options, at such a large variety of price points.

Optic, BUIS, light.

Plus five position stock, sling plate, and vertical front grip.

That does it for me.

Actually my granddaughter wants one like that pink one I posted above. It's really a pic I got off of AR.15.

You need to get some dumbells with picatinny rail attachments. Most of those things are not heavy enough.

My AR has a 4 railed handguard, vertical grip, keep the carry handle mounted, and the GI sling. Pretty basic. Disregard the scope, that is just for range fun. Social work I stick with the irons.

It's a full-auto M16A2 Commando (11.5" barrel) with a night vision compatible Eotech, fold-down rear sight and verticle front grip. It is also setup for a light, but doesn't have one mounted right now.
